Well, Hello to all who is reading this. Especially Andrew and Revan. Myself, along with several other users have come to the conclusion that a video that would help explain the server and its basic commands/rules would be very beneficial to implement. Now, I propose that (if this is possible) We add the link to a sign at spawn so when they click it, they are redirected to youtube or the forums where the video is posted. We also should add it to the server messages you get when you first log on and also maybe we could make a link in the wiki or a couple places on the forums. I would also like to be in charge of the production of this video... Let me list my assets.... I have been in a video production class for a year at my high school and I have become to lead editor of the class as a freshmen. I own and use Final Cut Pro X which is a very high end professional video editing software. I also have access to motion a program which I can use to custom make any transitions or effects we would need to add to the video. I would love to have backing from the server and our staff (especially andrewkm) so that we could successfully implement this into the server. Here are my ideas for the video.... down below vvvvvvvvv - Log on with an empty inventory with no exp or anything. (I have a friend who is a builder and has gone inactive and he would let me use his account for the purposes of this video) I would go about the tutorial and use it as my guide and say that you can visit it for more detailed information, then I would explain the towns systems and even ask for names of builder towns from the community so I could direct them on how to get to said towns. - Explain in great detail the forums, how to make an account, how to rank up to resident, VOTING and how it helps the server, and other ways to get involved with the community. - I would offer some money making tips such as... SG where I could explain kits and how you can donate to support the server and how it gives you an advantage and can help you rank up faster, mining I would explain kit starter and how to access the different worlds, farming (I would even show them some farm towns with owners who would be willing to offer perms on a payment plan... -I would explain all of the worlds and what they do... Being that I have access to all of the worlds I could show them around pretty easily... - Go through all the rules and what is appropriate for chat and what should be kept in /pm or what is not acceptable on the server period. - Basic terminology that we use on the server such as erep, dat profit, lotto hax, perms, and any other joking/command terms that they will need to know how to do. I REALLY hope this suggestion gets added because I think it would save all of the town owners/staff the time that they spend explaining these things. It would also show users what is acceptable by staff standards and will show them how to VOTE and DONATE for the server. I don't see any downsides to this. I, Dpatt888 really just want to come up with a way so help the server community and the server itself. Andrew if you are looking at this I want you to know that I appreciate all that you do for the server and I and 100% sure that this would help the users/staff that we love and appreciate so much on the server. I think maybe a series of videos would suit this well. The very first being Getting Started, telling them the rules, and how to get their first bit of money. I had actually thought about doing this, just haven't had the time yet.
I just had the same thought. Like an sg tutorial and then a tutorial of the market and tools and how to sell for the best price would be awesome too
I know that videos are something which have been discussed by the Wiki Team. I'm not sure how far progressed the idea is though.
We'll Dewsy.... I'm opening it up to the community for suggestions. It would all be approved through Andrew before it got posted anywhere so I think it would be great. And I would take direct input from him and will film several times until we get a great outcome -dpatt888
I might form a rebellion and make some by myself, and just post them to my Youtube channel. Not an actual rebellion mind you, just not ask first. That'd be okay though, right Dewsy?
+1 honestly u get bonus marks for explaining it. Personally u had me after "that a video would help explain..." this is a good idea and something that should have been implemented a long time ago.
Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as saying you can't do it because the Wiki Team are considering video tutorials. I was just saying that it was happening to an extent. I'd also like to say that there is nothing stopping players at the moment from making tutorial videos that can be posted in the 'Basic Tutorial' section of the forum.
true I really was just wanting to get server backing and make them all uniform and from the same person. so nothing gets left unexplained
To be completely honest, I think that anything 'official' will be placed on the Wiki, and so would originate from the Wiki Team. There may be a possibility to assist whoever leads that, although that would be up to whoever leads the project. EDIT: By the way, I like the idea and I think we should have video tutorials. So please don't see me as shooting this suggestion down. You could start making some videos which could be used/adopted etc.

I've done a decent amount of video editing as I am a Youtube partner, I just took half my videos down and quit, but I know how to edit videos and record audio and whatnot. If you wanted to help me figure out what to include in some tutorials and help me out with some of them that'd be stellar, let's get the ball rolling on this one!

Ah that would be great! Icurrently use the free version of Bandicam, but I can also invest in the paid version, although the free does alow 10 minutes of recording!
@dpatt888 I'm not sure why you think you need the go-ahead from Andrew, yes he's the server owner, but if we have something to show him and say "We made this, and we would like to make more of this" then he might back it a lot more than if we sit here waiting until he stumbles upon this thread.
