Now, for your first section. Yes, sure they end up being forum banned over and over again... but it doesn't solve the problem. I see the same people doing the same trolling/breaking of rules all the time. It's not working. If you would like I could pull some evidence out, but I do not know if that is allowed.

Second, they're over the top because the problem is over the top. It's not working, so yes, it needs to be over the top. If prisoners are getting around a wall to escape punishment, you build a better wall. It may have fire spewing out of it, but it will help solve a drastic problem.

Sure, he knows a whole ton more than me. I get that part completely. But is it working? No! I still see the same people doing the same shananigans all the time. Yes, he sees what goes on behind the curtain, but I see what goes on stage, and it ain't pretty.

If he knows more, I assume he knows what is working and what's not. Mods do a lot more that you can't see.

But it's not working. When the same people do the same things over and over again with minimal consequences, there's clearly something wrong. The answer is right in front of you, yet you're not seeing it.

Define Mini-Modding though. I agree that in the BA/C section there needs to be more disciplining players but I feel like term mini-modding is too vague and that players can take such a large ban for a rather minor offense. Also forums and in-game bans should be separate.

-1, theory needs to be more developed

Forum banning people for a week for a offense and banning people from posting on threads isn't "a bit"

The only way people will stop is when the punishment is too excessive. Sure, people will still do it, but it would less frequent, if not gone by the time this is implemented.

Option 1 is just not going to happen.

    Option 2 is just nonsense

This is my first and last post on this thread i know how some people tend to start wars over silly things.

    Not a staff response.

Just like to start out... Non-Staff and previous Staff have an opinion, too. Shutting them down is very rude and uncalled for. The point of suggestions is to hear the community... -_- The community does not only consist of Staff members.

Option 1 is too harsh and targets the wrong location for bans. In theory, yeah, banning a user in-game is "scarier" and "more threatening." However, it absolutely does NOT solve the problem as you suggest it. If they are not banned on the forum for the rules they broke, they will continue to break rules on the forum, waste Staff time, complicate complaints and appeals (because there are tons of useless posts), etc.

By default, three warning points will ban a user for three days, automatically. It should not be 24 hours unless Phys/Andrew/KH changed it in the last few+ months. In addition, warning points have expiration dates. If a warning point expires, it does not count to your current total (although can still be viewed on a user's profile by Staff). As well, Staff can issue multiple points at once - it does not have to be one point, or one point with two warnings. Stack points for severity.

And... Last I knew (few months ago), only GAs/Owners have a "Ban" button and/or other Staff didn't know it existed/too afraid to use it (??????????). I'm guessing that is why people only get three-day bans all...the...freaking...time. Give at least SM+ a "Ban" button that has ban time options.

I do not know Staff's current guidelines on handling rule-breakers on complaints and appeals - mini-modding or idiocy - but I am going to agree with others that it is not working. All I see is huge repetition that leads to nothing of value (value = people's view on level of seriousness). Obviously there is a problem, and it is not being solved. People aren't taking Staff seriously. (But what is proposed in this suggestion is way too harsh.)

There needs to be a gradual, but quick, elevation of punishment and severity.

    - First-time offender or someone who has not broken a rule in a long time? Verbal warning.
    - Recent offender who has been warned verbally? Warning point. (Two if severe.)
    - Recent offender who has been given a warning point(s)? One or two additional warning points, depending on severity. Delete posts for severe cases (spam/idiocy/additional rules broken).
    * Two warning points would lead to a three-day ban (assuming default automated ban has not changed).
    * One warning point would lead to a very thin leash - next offense gets a warning point, no matter the severity (leading to automated ban). Possibly two points, leaving an additional point for after ban time - this leaves the user even closer to another ban if they continue afterward. In addition to either of these scenarios, stop giving verbal warnings and delete all unnecessary posts.

! After users get to their second automated ban (within a month of their last one), add additional time to the ban. If it's a one-day automated ban, make it three days. If it is a three-day automated ban, make it seven days. Third automated ban in a month or less? Increase the ban AND ban in-game for 1-3 days. Fourth automated ban...? Well... Long temp-ban or ban in-game, leave the automated forum ban, and require a damn-serious appeal. This allows for stricter punishments, but nothing too harsh right away. ECC doesn't need to be a dictatorship. It needs a proper system that isn't broken (like whatever is currently in place or this suggestion's proposal).

Option 2? Well, to start off, it becomes quite complicated with Xenforo... It is somewhat possible, but very difficult to work with. Also, just to add, you cannot "invite" individual people to it. That isn't possible on Xenforo by default. Maybe with an addon (becomes more complicated) or thru Phys adding and removing forum permissions... But I highly doubt she has time for that... with every single complaint that is made. Basically, Option 2 just will not work. It becomes very complicated and/or way too time-consuming. Oh.. and it defeats the purpose of having a public record. (Threads would be hidden, not visible, in order to do an invite-system. Unless, again, there is an addon...)

Now, I would just like to say that I'm not shutting people down. For one, if someone posts something mean or rude, you'll get it right back from me. And I wouldn't say shutting down is the correct term. I would rather say debate. I'm a big debater and I like to know people's thoughts and concerns. Then I like to show them why I disagree with them. Will my response come out forcefully? Yes, of course, that's how I debate! It's just how I am.

And I do see what you mean about the whole non-dictatorship thing. The plan you outlined seems incredibly do-able and, to be honest, a lot more logical than mine.

With option two, I'm not used to Xenforo forums all too well, so it was just something to be thrown out there.

But I really do like the plan... anyone not like it? I don't see any flaws with it.

I wasn't talking about you when I was talking about shutting down non-Staff. :b Was a general thing I saw after reading the thread.

Xenforo unfortunately lacks odd features that most forums have. I was just trying to be informative, rather than angry. xP

+1. 1 week may be too much, though. I suggest we still give a verbal warning before we do this, as some people may be new and they do not know they are not allowed to post there. Also, I would prefer a 1 day (or so) forum ban instead of a week in game ban.

I would suggest to begin doing all ECC service bans for mini-modding on the forums.

Obviously this suggestion is going to be put on the back burner and forgotten about; so I'm going to revive it again. Here's some threads recently that had many mini modders AND just trolls. They were NOT taken care of at all, and some may notice they still do the same garbage still. The warnings that were given were certainly not taken seriously either.

This is in need of a major bump. Mini mods have run rampant on the BA/C forum.

    Ban them all.
