That's a great idea. The portal floors should also be maybe in different chunks then each other, to prevent all the lag (with warp signs connecting the floors)

Problem with weeding out the portals is its only a benefit to the here and now.
If someone leaves a day before the weeding out, will they lose their spot because they aren't around?

I do like the Premium Portal room for sure, I think there you could also have a portal room that links with the HoF Featured Town Portals,
So you have access to them as well.

The next problem you have would be do the Mayors have to have a active town, or just state that they are still around to keep their place/move their portal up?
What wold the requirements be to be eligible to keep their portal?

I love the idea and think that something needs to be done, but its pretty tough to do anything with the shear number of portals and the layout.

+1/-1 but the suggestion/implementation needs to be refined on this suggestion

+31415 because of the reasons mentioned - Many prime portal room towns have died out, the active towns are hidden on the lower layers most new players won't even look at.
I agree, that's somethink that would need to be planned in advance.
However, the point of a suggestions forum is to discuss points of view on different topics and find ways to value different opinions against each other. So, it would serve a purpose if you'd please explain your counter-points.

@nicit so let me get this straight you want me to pay 75k for a portal and then 1k a week to use it?
I'll just to people to my towns if that's the case

No, you would just pay the weekly or monthly fee to get a Premium spot in a special area

I dunno if anyone here has considered this, but do you guys know how long it takes to transfer portals?

When we switched to the current portal room, I spent three full days moving all the portals over. My eyes were burning like crazy by the time I was done and I had to fix a lot of issues. There were half of the current number of portals at that time, and the portals are done by a larger number of people now, which means there's going to be a lot of nomenclature inconsistencies and such, which means more time checking and fixing. Even if more people were to work on a transfer, that causes other nightmares such as double portals, missing portals, etc.

I'm not against the idea of perhaps having more active portals put in a "premium" spot, if doing so is possible without too much strain on the admins in terms of time and paperwork.

As for an entirely new one, I would not wish that mess upon anyone, especially not the admins who have a ton on their plate already.

No, you would have a portal still. The 1k a week puts you in an easy to find location. If you didn't want it you wouldn't have to pay it.

    1) The layouts and maps would be messed up and it would become confusing.
    2) Why should we have to pay to have our portals in a 'premium' spot, It has been first come first served basically with the portals. So people back in 2012 who brought a portal on the top floor, but have gone inactive, might come back to find their portal has been moved to a place, a new recently placed portal, there would be catastrophic arguments and very sad players.

There is more, I'll probably post after users debate on my points...

    1. It's only as confusing as the design. Could implement a non-confusing design pretty easily.
    2. Supply and demand. Helps fix the portal clutter issue, helps take money out of the economy. Also anyone who has been inactive since 2012 would already come back to a new spot as like sky said above, the portal room changed while she was an SA in 2013.

Re-edited the thread to include the idea of a premium portal room. If anything should be added to the argument please feel free to post as I want to build the strongest argument possible. Thank you for the feedback guys I am listening!

Without a fee people will clutter the premium room with all kinds of towns. If you don't want to pay the fee you wouldn't have to, you just wouldn't get the premium portal.

There was nothing said that you would have to pay a fee - it would only be if you would prefer to have your town portal in a premium, easy to access spot. Although, I would still like to see it change to a warp sign system as I feel it would be so much cleaner and easier to have an efficient design made for it.

I'd be fine with either solution, but I like the premium town portal room idea. It's less of a hassle for GA's in terms of moving portals, and we won't have to worry about getting used to an entirely new layout. Either way, good idea Sonny.

Im assuming youd have to apply monthly for a premium portal?
Otherwise people would buy years in advance and then disappear if it would cheap (like under 10k) Im sure someone would be willing to pay 100k upfront and have there portal in the premium section all year, :p

Its good money is coming out the economy, btu defeats the purpose of using the premium area for active members/towns.

I was at first a definite +1 to this argument and idea, but then I read through all of the comments and other suggestions and contemplated my opinion. I dont think I have a +1 nor a -1, because this truly sounds like something of the sort needs to happen, to get the economy and the server more in fluid motion and get the peak players up again.

Yes, it may make it more desirable if there are only a selected few in a premium room, and there are ways you could asses the town to make it eligible for a premium spot. Things such as mayor activity, town resident activity, the tidiness of the town, the friendliness... things that would be more desirable to a new builder, like I know how I was when I started. This may mean that some towns will be shown as better than others, but it may encourage the other mayors who may not have been accepted into the "premium" area more eager to make their town better and attract players, which also might attract more staying players to the server in general.

I read earlier in one of the comments about in 2013, when @Skylexia was an SM, and a year after the server had been founded, that the portal room had been re done and moved. This was 2 YEARS AGO now. By now there are plenty of players that may have left their towns unattended and the residents of said town left, either leaving the server or graduating in rank and building their own town. This means that these towns may be eligible to have their portal moved or removed, to avoid clutter and lag, and to help new and old players find desired towns. I think its time to do something about the towns portals area, either re model and 'spring clean', or find a good alternative to give the more active towns a better chance to grow and be known by players.

I know that I personally like roaming around the portals area and checking out the different towns, remembering by the colour of the row and the name of the level, and I have properties in a few towns, which DOES make the portals room helpful. BUT, when you have finally gone down 5 floors, walked around in another 4 circles and have located the town, you have wasted time. I know that some would say the solution to this is the 'multihome' feature, but I myself know that the only way for me to get it is in game, and it is not always easy raising the money. I initially like the idea of being able to walk through a portal and straight into a town, and it would be a lot easier and efficient (including yes, lag efficient) if there was a way to narrow down the active towns and the not so active, like maybe putting the more active at the top and the less nearer the bottom.

I had another idea, but because it took me a while to write all of the above... I've already forgotten. So thank you for reading my long response, I think I will give this a +1 :)
