The plugin was created by the author of macromod. (and liteloader) Some mods that use liteloader hook into it and disable features unless people have the necessary clientside permissions. (most notably, macromod, autofisher and voxelmap)

There are no downsides to this server side. Some people's macros that utilize "echo" will break. And it will take some effort to give people all the macromod permissions except for the echo one. But I've utilized the plugin in the past, and it's fairly easy to do.

Another upside to this is blocking the liteloader autofisher, and the illegal features in voxelmap (because voxelmap is many times better than mapwriter/ecc minimap)
