Well to be honest I think this is a pretty shoddily written suggestion, my friend. However sometimes I wish you could do something similar. For example I like to use /sell all but also like to give e-reps so it would be awesome if I could just name the chest and it would protect it from being sold with the sell all command. Named animals are protected from despawning after all, it's not a totally illogical idea.
However I don't think that it could be applied to stuff like a stack of porkchops. I recommend you utilize the /sell toolbar feature and just get your food out of the toolbar.
The only reason that doesn't work out great for me is now I have feedplus, nv, and an eff7 so I'm trying to sell basically a whole inventory save some /owned tools and one darn chest lol. But there are a million things I'd rather the devs focus on before they spend actual time trying to save my one darn chest I should be smart enough to just place before I do /sell all.

The main problem I can see is that this would need to be a custom addition, which would need to be separated from the Essentials /sell since it does not support this functionality. Basically, we would need a plugin that alters the balance and the inventory of a user without using the fully functional /sell command... which I don't really see the need for.
There are many alternatives: A temporary chest that is placed down before /sell all, /eec, a macro keybind for /sell hand while scrolling through your toolbar, etc. -

Too much work for too little gain. I'd much rather have the developer team focus on the Network than an entirely new version of essentials.
