I remember having the same issue a long time ago. When I used a macro to display my XP (using the %XP% variable, IIRC), the displayed value matched the tab list and differed from the (correct) /xp stats. Back then, the main source of discrepancy was using an anvil. Did you recently rename or combine items?

You can just kill yourself/die ingame. No need for anything like that.

 

Oh I thought this was on skyblock, it happens there too and I cant get rid of xp when I die because of my rank. Will try on main though :p

 

On the main server my xp is fine and shows the correct amount. On skyblock their is a difference between the amount shown on /xp and [Tab]

 

One way to create a difference in exp is enchanting on an anvil. For example combining 2 tools for 5 lvls. After enchanting there is a difference in exp.

If you have lots of exp, you can make the /exp and the tab view the same again by buying a nstar for example.
So i think some features are not lowering the exp that you can see in your tab view, while it will lower in the /exp function.

 

Okay so heres what I did step by step:
1. Lowered my level down as far as possible from 14 levels to 0 levels (3 points). (/xp experience shown http://prntscr.com/m8duo0) (Tab experience shown http://prntscr.com/m8dv7e)
2. Used 64 exp bottles to raise my level to 18 (/xp experience shown http://prntscr.com/m8dvmz) (Tab experience shown http://prntscr.com/m8dw3r)
3. Combined 2 pickaxes (diamond, one with Eff 2 Fort 1 Unbreaking 2) which cost me 10 levels and brought my exp from 18 to 8 levels http://prntscr.com/m8dwuk. (/xp experience shown http://prntscr.com/m8dx6v) (Tab experience shown http://prntscr.com/m8dxji)
4. Checked tab to see if the exp count matched with /xp (It didn't. Tab showed 636 points greater in difference to /xp.)

This was recreated on Minecraft Version: 1.13.2-Optifine_HD_U_E4 - Optifine

I believe that the tab is miscalculating or not calculating any exp taken when enchanting/combining tools as my tab exp always seems to show more than my /xp which means it is not removing any exp when performing enchants etc.

UPDATE: I have found whilst I have been gaining exp since today via killing mobs etc, the difference has been staying at 636 points. Not sure if this is helpful but may come in handy.

Omg this thread is right... I thought I had 50,044 xp but only had 49,916 after renaming an item and combining mending to a rod on anvil

 

I can add my findings on this. Every time you use exp for repairing enchanting or anything beides exchanging stars the xp messes up my tab meter has been far over 15k exp Wrong somehow
