Because the rules are too strict and dumb. What happened to the good old 2 minute interval...

 

People started using macros to automatically post trade ads and trade chat got absolutely flooded with messages. AKA, people like you caused the interval to increase.

 

Even my personal bias aside, what if someone accidentaly WC's in [Tr]? RIP his trade ad.

+1 As long as it won't interfere with my trade macros. Also in addition to this plugin, it would nice to switch the user automatically out of /ch tr after their ads are posted in order to avoid a lot of those "wc" posts.

 

I was going to say that this was a very good point (despite your previous points were not); however @Frostystorm1's comment gave me the idea on the solution: if you don't have Patron, just add a /ch trade before and a /ch local after your ad, in your macro; problem solved (unless this is was he meant and just mistyped "plugin" instead of "macro"). And if you have Patron, what are we talking about? Just use /ch qm tr and you won't ever wc in tr in your entire life lol.

If you meant macro and not plugin, I apologize and agree; but if you meant plugin, I disagree: I don't want a plugin to change channel for me. How on Earth does a plugin know whether I'm going to wc or not? It can't just assume I will: maybe I just want to type in that same channel, again, after a 5 minutes silence. And the plugin won't even really need to redirect me to another channel, if it can just dismiss my before-cooldown messages.

Overall, I greatly agree with the suggestion. Btw, when was it reduced from 10 min to 5 min again?

 

Say I posted a non-macro ad and forgot to leave trade. What if I type mid-macro? It happens more often than you think.

 

Then you'll have to wait 5 minutes; which, contrary to popular belief, isn't much. And if you're using a macro, sucks to be you. client-side automation comes with downsides. This is one of them.
The only way to prevent that is to automatically make you leave trade chat after posting, but that brings a whole plethora of other issues with it. Alternatively, you could make trade chat the only one you can use '/ch qm' with without patron, or even force the use of a command like "/tradead" or something

 

Look, the rule "you can't post more than 2 different ads in trade channel every 5 minutes" is already in place: you already can't do that, according to "law". It's just that there's no physical mechanism preventing you to break the rule and do it anyway.
So, are you basically saying "I don't want the examiner to check whether I hid a phone during the exam, because then I wouldn't be able to use it in order to cheat"? Or "I don't want cameras at intersections, because then I wouldn't be able to go through a red light without being fined"? o_O
You already can't do that, this system would just enforce the rule already in place. If you don't like this, you should make a suggestion to change the rule: this thread is not about the merit of the rule, but on how to enforce it more effectively.

p.s: but I did it by mistake! Ok, but you still did it and it still had a consequence: you added another message to an already overcrowded channel, so please wait for your turn again. And next time, pay more attention if you don't want to waste your turn.

 

Plus, it isn't like mods have a timer and watch /ch tr very tightly. If you post too often, all you get is "please slow down your trade ads", and that's it. This verbal warning stops it, so I don't see the need for something like this.

Also, this plugin would have to be constantly updated, and if it is custom that is even worse, as Jamie has much more importnat things on his hands, and would better spend his time on something useful like /sell or trade sign issues.

 

So you're suggesting we make people cherish every message in trade they post? That's quite overboard for a chat message.
So overcrowded, very player count.
I'd understand chat spam would be a problem with more players with everyone trying to get their ad in. But with 20-50 people online usually, does it really matter?
If people really hate trade chat, /ch leave tr.
