Just curious on either people use desktops or laptops for Minecraft. Also, it would be great if you could tell me what model you have! I am looking to get a new computer, and I am curious on what you guys have! Thanks for answering and/or commenting! :)

I know many people will freak out at me, but I am on a 2008 iMac desktop with an Intel Core 2 Duo proccessor with 2gigs of 800 MHZ ddr2 ram. I run without lag on vanilla with render distance at far, while with optifine and making it as laggy as possible I can run on extreme and get 13 FPS. I normally run at about 30-50 FPS with render distance of tiny, fog off, and a 128x128 texture pack. It isn't that bad, and I also use it for design work so it is not completely un-called for.

Not gonna bother saying what my computer is... I have had it for at least two years - if not three or more - so it is becoming "old" now. Much better models and stuff nowadays. :b
I use a laptop to play MC. I plan to get a desktop at some point, and use my laptop as a second screen and a school computer (laptop on campus = much easier than campus computers).
There are some pretty tech-savvy (at least hardware-wise) on ECC that can probably help you with finding a good computer. :b If there is a newer game(s) you want to play, use those recommended/max specs to at least get an idea of what you will "need."
...and this may sound bad, but Macs are built and designed far more for creative works and business kinda stuffs. If you are a gamer, PCs are probably a better choice. I dunno anything about Ubuntu and Linux stuff, at all, so that is something else entirely. >_> -
I use both, actually. I have a brand new desktop I got a couple months ago... and a laptop I got over a year ago. Sadly the laptop is having display issues and needs to go in for service. No more playing MC while curled up in bed for a while.

I so far like macs software but I need a serious hardware overhaul. Far render distance used to be ok in 1.8 but now it is horrendous. I usually play on normal render and with max FPS turned on. I can get up to 80 GPS but it hangs around 30-50 ish. And surprisingly, this is a MacBook :/

I have a very bad PC... I run a 32x texture pack, with an average of ~10 FPS, 16x is nothing better. Here's the specs

Pc I'm to sure what my fps is though it's pretty good with optifine + 2 other mods and 32 texture pack.
F3 and f2 don't work on my keyboard and my parents won't let me use a different keyboard because they want a wireless one... Soo anyone have any mods that let me change what buttons to press f2 and f3 are? And f5 etc.. Or show fps on screen, though it may not be compitable with my other mod.
But I would say 50 fps with render normal +36 and most animations turned off.
