Hello everyone, I am here to ask you why we have Clear-lag as a feature. It's main purpose is to do what the name suggests, get rid of lag. The thing that does not make sense, is that the game already has a feature in itself that items despawn after being on the ground for five minutes. Clear-lag also gets rid of other entities such as minecarts, which not only cost iron, which is a rare resource at the moment, but can be used for many wonderful purposes like auto smelters. It deletes items that players drop for friends, or lay on the ground when players die, that could easily be picked up, but sadly are deleted. One of the basic rules on AEM Skyblock is no greifing, yet one of its mechanics does it itself. Why do we have a plugin which does something already built into the game, and deletes useful items, in a world were they are even more rare? Please tell me and many other players who think this plugin is a waste of time and effort why it is in use. Please add your responses below on what you think of Clear-Lag, and please vote on the Poll I have created.
Clearlag may seem like a pain to us, but it really is essential to the server. If we didn't have Clearlag, the server would get so laggy and overloaded because of all the entities that would be on the ground, and crash.
Clearlag does warn you a minute in advance, but I have lost thousands of dollars worth of stuff from clearlag, as most know cause I bitched about it for months, I lost like, almost a full stack of diamond blocks... It was dreadful. So I think getting rid of clearlag would be a good thing so we quit derping and losing our stuff
I personally have lost ALOT due to clear lag, @dbikowicz would know XD however, clearlag does get rid of lots of lag, and I don't know if items still de spawn after 5 minutes on skyblock...
As @BomberDude96 stated in game, With islands becoming 3 times bigger, someone is going to make a 283x283 cactus farm, and imagine the lag otherwise.
I dont have a problem with the clearlag i know its needed but sometimes it can be easy to miss the warnings if youre busy. Not sure what else could be done about it. Hoping the fix the minecarts clearing in clearlag.
Clear lag was implemented because it was found that a lot of players (at the time) had farms overflowing with generating entities. An example would be a cactus farm. These farms would overflow and back up the hoppers, creating stacks of entities sitting on a loaded island. Imagine this scenario for several players, and now you have lag machines and lag for ALL players of skyblock. Yes, items still despawn after 5 mins of sitting on the ground, exception is fired arrows despawn after one minute. In 5 minutes, a lot of entities can be generated. Clear lag only runs every 10 mins, and it gives a one minute warning and a 20 second warning in advance. The best strategy to not become a victim of clear lag is to not drop any important items till you see the CLEAR LAG go through. If we removed clear-lag, we have to consider how it will affect all players. Should staff punish players who create farms which efficiently generate stacks of entities that they can't clear in time? Stated above, it would cause server lag, which would affect all players, not just that person, which can be seen as a form of grief. (Look up the definition of grief if you don't know what it really means). These are just my thoughts and some points you players may not have considered, I am neither for or against the removal of the plugin, I just want the server to be a playable and a positive community.
You say all the entites on the ground, but they would despawn after 5 min, which I believe is quicker than Clear-lag itself.
I have not witnessed any server lag while playing on skyblock since the reset, even with many entities on the ground. I have kinda crappy internet (Yay! Comcast!), and I still have no problem with server-side lag. The server has a great framework does it not? Couldn't the server handle such a load.
It was implemented in the past after skyblock islands were well developed, Ex: Casanova. Now with island sizes going up to 283 x 283 x 256, people may go even more crazy with farm sizes. (I know cas would'ave loved it.) It is true items despawn at a faster rate than clear lag (5 min vs. 10 min) but the clear lag was to remove excess entities. Each entity carries a timer and it will despawn after 5 mins, if this overlaps with the clear-lag activation time, then you can view it as a kind of refresh or relief for the system. I can write an example of this if you need to understand it better. Overall, I do think clear-lag should be tweaked so it doesn't remove stationary+empty minecarts.
If it were to be tweaked, I think that minecarts should be completely blacklisted from, as well as stationary items. But I still stand at the point that the server should be able to handle an temporary increase in entites, and that it does more harm than good.
I believe we should still have clear lag, BUT 20 seconds isn't a short enough time warning. Maybe perhaps implement a warning like this, CLEAR LAG WILL ARRIVE IN 5 4 3 2 1 gone. Something similar to that with a few tweaks. I know that this would save a lot of problems.
There is a very important thing on a server - view distance. Because of that thing when you are on your island, server won't load all your island, but a small piece of it - around 50 blocks around you. So increasing maximum sizes of an island won't affect the lagginess. Second - the first time I came to the server Clearlag didn't delete ALL ground items, but only part of that items, which were laying on the ground above 2 or 3 minutes. Why did you change that? Can we switch to that version of Clearlag again? (excuse me for possible mistakes)
