As many of you may know, and some of you who may come to know, there is being on ECC whose mere presence has become something of a legend, perhaps even more legendary than the sight of Lord andrewkm himself...



Whether or not you may appreciate his/her ward, or the expressionless mug, as you pass through spawn, we have all come to expect that "CHISM_101" just is. Some have tried greetings, in various languages, others have tried poking with sticks... Some have even tried complaining... Though we can say most confidently that none have ever received a response, textual or cursor click, in return.

The tale of CHISM is a strange one, that not many know, if any at all. When I first logged on ECC on October 1st 2013, CHISM_101 was not present at spawn. However, at some point after spawn was revised, I recall that CHISM_101 appeared. Call me crazy, or susceptible to hallucinations, but I thought when I first saw him/her, that CHISM_101 was walking around, seemingly active, like any other user. The main reason I believe I remember this is because CHISM was the first person I saw on ECC to have a Mega Man skin... and thus I decided to change my skin from Sky Captain to Mega Man Volnutt. If he/she actually was active before, he/she wasn't for long, and soon began standing at the /spawn point. Since then, CHISM doesn't seem to have moved his/her body, held any object besides a baked potato, and doesn't seem to tilt his/her head in any other position besides where it is cocked.

While flying through Main World at high speed, searching for cool structure to gaze upon, I saw some chests sitting in a unprotected, Global area. I descended to have a look... And it was locked... by CHISM_101! I panicked. I quickly poped back to spawn... but CHISM was still there. I asked the locals if CHISM had left, they called me crazy... It made me wonder... If for all the time I have known CHISM and he/she has been standing still, then at some point in the past, could CHISM have been moving... A forum search revealed to me that "CHISM_101" is indeed registered on the forum as a resident since Feburary 17th, 2012... But there is no resident application... and there is no last forum log in date recorded... Even old players who have been offline since 2011 have a last seen date on the forum... What in EcoCityCraft is going on?!

Recently when Lord andrewkm edited the center spawn to cover the pit, CHISM did not move from the pit, and was for a time, trapped under the stone slabs. Oddly enough, when the /spawn set point was moved, within 24 hours he/she appeared at the new point!

Now we do know for a fact that at some times, CHISM is not standing at spawn... this appears to coincide when CHISM is offline -- but it seems to only be for short durations.

So what exactly is it with CHISM_101?



Some have grown to expect CHISM's constant posture.
Others have been disconcerted enough to question why he/she is allowed to remain on EcoCityCraft. Some throw things at CHISM in anger. Some attempt to help feed him/her out of pitty.

Many more have the idea that once upon a time, perhaps CHISM_101 traveled through the many lands, and waters of EcoCityCraft. Perhaps CHISM saw it all, did it all, and transcended to a higher plane of existence... only to return, speechless, perhaps to warn us of something, something that no text based conversation can adequately describe... and no action can prevent...

Others still believe CHISM_101 is waiting and perhaps doesn't believe anything is worth doing till the world of Rising lands.

Personally, I have come to believe that CHISM_101 is a manifestation of the server itself... Watching us... Judging us... And perhaps when we disturb it enough, the connection crashes in discipline of us.

No matter what you believe (and yes friend I know you have a belief on the matter) we should all consider the ramifications if CHISM_101 ever left, or worse, would ever be forced to leave his/her constant vigil... a vigil that has become part of our very livelihood on ECC. Regardless of how you feel about CHISM_101, you know that at some point or another, CHISM has contributed something to your life on ECC, be it non-motivational support, a source to direct your anger, or even a topic to fill dead chat. Perhaps we all ought to harbor some concern for the well being of CHISM.



As I farm melons, /repair all, and /sell hand, I look up into the night sky upon a new moon, and I wonder to myself...
