[Suggestion] Custom Names for /warp

I don't think a character limit should matter. I was saying more along the lines of, say that the town of 'Meep' is buying a warp, the owner named the warp 'alkhfsalkdhg' Nobody is going to know the warp, or be able to get there, so it is a waste of money.

I could see this causing issues - lets say that I wanted to buy a warp, and name it Recours. Then Joseph wants to go buy a warp for his town Recours, but I took the name.

I think the town name system works fine - you already can pick your warp name, just pick a decent town name.

 

I think you cannot name a warp the name of another town and vice versa.

 

There are literally thousands of towns on ECC - this would narrow your warp name options quite a bit, almost to the point where there's no need to change the current system.

 

But there are millions of words/phrases. The possibilities are endless.

 

This is why its a upgrade, not a replacement.

For example for my town Akert, I could buy the warp "Akert" Upgrade the warp to "Anok's Market". People would still have access to /warp Akert and have as a bonus, /warp Anok's Market.

Yes I know spaces and likely special characters can't be used. But you see the point.

Another way of doing it, is instead of it being fully custom it requires the town/nation name:
Akert_Markets
Akert_TownMarket
Akert_TownFarm

Excreta. The underscore could be replaced or even removed to make Akert:Markets or AkertMarkets. Which ever is suited to the plugin.

This way, you get to ensure future town names cannot be taken.

I think this is a great idea because of the change in purpose of a town, the lack of satisfaction by a new or present owner.

 

But if you aren't the original owner, you need to use a claim/transfer on the town before you can buy a warp anyway, so that freedom is already one heavily restricted.

 

Many do, but I daresay not most. Most original owners of towns are inactive -- while this works for recent transactions, many older towns will be left in the dust.

 

So here is my main problem. Someone brought up 'Well just make it so you can't name it after an existing town.' Okay... but what if you name your warp 'LittleFarm' and then a few months later I decide 'LittleFarm' would make a nice town name. I apply for that town and when I go to get a warp, you already took the warp name. Just as there are thousands of different warp names, there are thousands of possibilities for town names. I don't think we should forget the future players and how this may impact them.

 

Couldn't we tell people to check the /warp list when they go to apply for a town? They have to do that with /rg i and may sometimes feel the disappointment of not getting it. If they want their /warp to be the same as their town name, they should make sure the /warp isn't taken as well. I also don't think there are that many people who buy a /warp to be honest. Yes I have several, but most people may not see a need for it as much as a portal. So yeah, look at /warp list as you would with /rg i is my thought

 

I'd still say that towns should get priority over custom names, even if the town name hasn't been used. If you do a custom name, I think one of the terms should be "You agree this is not the name of a current town on ECC, and if a town is created on ECC under this name, your warp may be removed if the owner should wish for a town warp."
