I think instead there should be a test that tests your knowledge on your rules prior to entering the server. Perhaps this sign could be at the end of the test.
Just to throw out a contrary opinion. There are some people who just play SG and don't know a lot about the rest of the server. Not sure if this would help or hinder them. I have no objections, I just know that many kids want to log in and play right away without going through a class, and some people/kids may resent having to go through it. With that said, my personal opinion is +1.
RyanJF1 The feature that would force them to start at a specific location different from normal /spawn?
I've had experiences implementing and running this kind of thing before, so I might as well give some kind of long post regarding their effectiveness. Hooray. Starting off, we need to establish two basic truths: Aside from the most exceptional cases, players have shown they are illiterate. Aside from the most exceptional cases, players have shown they can run down hallways quickly. By actively using the forums, all of us are (I hope) exceptions to these rules. When just starting out on a server, the first reaction is to go look around and see what's "hip" or "cool" in "dis house;" reading how to operate on the server is merely a shadow of a desire. When I first arrived here a bit more than two months ago, I had no idea how to function, even with reading all the material and having Nicodemux and Videowiz92 as personal piggy-banks tutors. In the end, I managed to somehow establish myself as someone with an opinion that matters... somehow; I seriously have no idea how this happened. So yeah, I'm still in the "screwing around" phase without any goals aside from my casino; even without being in this stage it's still easy to see what new players want; to have immediate fun, planning is later. In any case, having the new players spawn somewhere that doesn't have pretty things around them but signs to read is a huge buzz-kill. In a past life of mine (that I can discuss some other time,) I ended up writing around 700 total signs for a "tutorial tunnel" that ended up having a mandatory quiz at the end. Not only was this a massive time-sink, but in the end it did nothing to prevent the swarms of dumb questions appearing in chat; expecting players to read of their own accord for their own benefit is asking much too much. A few months down the drain for building, and it didn't really acomplish much anyways; our chat was still filled with stupid questions that were replicas from what was seen in the end-tunnel exam. So, if this was to be implemented; I would highly recommend some really pretty scenery around the tutorial, along with it being of a more open structure. As nice as having a clear chat is, driving people away because of massive sign walls is never something I would like to see again honestly. And for everyone's sake, an exam should never be installed; I've had to deal with the repercussions of these things, and in the end it solves no problems without creating bigger issues.
revanrose6 Eh, no. Your scale of reference is slightly off. Consider the fact that my example was done inside a Mountain/Dragon/Himajii castle model, all in an eastern style and probably in the scale of 400x400+. As much as you want to pretty something up, it's still going to be looked down upon for being what it is; a bunch of reading you have to do before you can play.
You make it a quiz. I saw it once it was multiple choice and to get to end u had to get though it now on incorrect answers make it inconveinient for the player so they try to do quiz
The worst is when a builder doesnt know how to use the chat and you have no communication with them. New player should have to go through the tutorial to prevent this. +1 for having new players go through the tutorial. Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk 4
Yea it took me when I was a semi-experienced builder to figure out the chat and stuff albeit reading the tutorial xD
Well, not sure if this is an issue or not, but its not exactly a secret that lots of players lag at market, not sure if the new tutorial is close enough for it to cause this, but I imagine someone looking for a new server isn't going to be attracted by 2 fps immediately upon joining.
+1 I like the idea, but wouldn't everyone spawn in the tutorial amongst doing /spawn? IMO, that would get a bit annoying and it could possibly lower the prices of spawn towns. just a thought
