I carry a few things with me when I go into the mining world, this includes; Full maxed Diamond Armour Efficiency 7 Pickaxe Efficiency 10 Shovel Efficiency 10 Axe Star Rod Star Sword I may seem a bit crazy to bring all of these with me, however, that's how I do it.
I usually bring: Star Pick Eff5 Unb3 ST Diamond Shovel Looting 3 Sharp 5 Diamond Sword 64 Torches ST Shears Water Bucket Eff5 Unb3 Fort3 Diamond Axe Diamond Chest Diamond Leggings Feather Fall 3 Iron Boots Aqua Affinity Diamond Helmet I'm not usually looking for anything specific, so I just grab whatever I find that strikes my fancy, thus a tool for everything. I use the torches to keep spawners from keeping making mobs while I choose to destroy the spawner, or set it up for gathering exp. I really need to spend some time on my armor though. It's the just stuff that I had as a builder. There haven't been enough mobs to make me worry about it much.
I bring: -Iron Armor -Stone Sword -Eff4 Unb3 Fort3 Diamond Pick -Diamond Shovel (sometimes stone) -Stack of torches, and extra wood -Half-stack of taters In my opinion, I don't really need to bring diamond-everything. Mobs are so rare, and I can fight them just fine with iron armor and a stone sword. I kinda should bring Feather Falling boots though, because I've nearly died from fall damage several times.
I bring Lots of wood 3 Stone pickaxes Iron pickax Diamond pickax (for obsidian) Lots of torches Some cobblestone I walk around until I find a cave, then I mine iron, gold, and the occasional diamond.
Max Fortune pick Bucket of Water Sponge Diamond Shovel Food Torches(Shaders makes it hard to see with no light)
I bring: Eff5 unbr3 fort3 pick, eff5 unbr3 shovel, diamond axe, diamond sword, a cooldowned and ready to use /kit water, resp3 aquaaffinity1 prot4 helmet, prot4 chestplate, prot4 leggins and ff4 prot4 diamond boots. Oh, and a stack of cooked potatos. (And high gamma, so no need for torches.) When I mine in rising: Eff5 unbr3 fort3 pick, eff5 unbr3 shovel, diamond axe, diamond sword, a cooldowned and ready to use /kit water, resp3 aquaaffinity1 prot4 helmet, prot4 chestplate, prot4 leggins and ff4 prot4 diamond boots. Oh, and a stack of cooked potatos. (And high gamma, so no need for torches.) And fly.
If I'm really in the mood for mining, what I'll usually take is a: Fortune pick and a Silk pick 6 night vision potions stack of baked potatoes (or more. Depends) a handy sword Silk shovel All tools are diamond.
I typically set a home in an Extreme Hills biome (this is where Multihome really pays off). That way, I can get all 7 overworld drops (all ore drops when my Excavation is high enough). Then, I use my Maxed Fortune pick in that area. I suppose that using a Silk pick would also work, but does not provide experience. I would feel worse about losing a silk touch than a fortune pick. I also bring a shovel (I have a maxed diamond, but it doesn't matter what kind, I just use it to expose covered ores), a sword, a stack of food, emergency potions (fire resistance is a favourite), a crafting table (for compact storage of ore drops), full armour (Protection on at least 1 piece, Aqua Affinity and Respiration do wonders, and Feather Falling boots). Another, 'thing' to bring into the Mining world, is a buddy. It's nice to have company, and they can get you out of a jam. It also helps, since you can go to the area repeatedly, as only one home needs to be set.
W aren't ruining Rising. Pi and myself typically only go through 1 area for a long time. Even then, it's just the Extreme Hills. We dig down in one spot, ./sethome, and get to business. After that, we're usually underground for the most part. Extreme Hills is tough to live on, and even harder to level for towns. So the way I see it, we aren't "ruining Rising", we're just taking advantage of the already vast amount of available resources. As if tearing up the underground does any real harm.
