While starting in eco.... I saw you could trade real stock tickers with in game "eco dollars". So I bought some stocks..... intending to sell the next morning, but when I check I was informed I could only sell after holding 3 days. I thought why would that rule be there? < to prevent buying and selling every 10 seconds and making fake fortunes!...... Yes the real market has a way to do this.... 1: when buying a stock in the real market you are charged commission... witch means... an extra 10-50 cents would be charged per share. ( if you are buying just a little) or you would be charged a flat fee of $5-10. meaning you could not just buy at 5.01 and sell at 5.02.... you would not gain 1 cent you would those 10-50 cents per share or $5 to $10. 2: In the real market you can not just buy 1,000,000 shares ( would make the stock go up a ton and you would need someone on the other end selling 1,000,000) so you should make a stock buying cap of 1000-2000 per day or per 3 days in one stock. Thanks for you time...... RalphConeIII
Yahoo Finance's API (what the simulator uses) is 15 minutes behind. No matter how you spin it, without the three day hold period, there's always going to be a way to exploit it. To get real-time quotes, you'd need to pay a pretty penny, which is something that ECC really doesn't need to do. Not sure how the plugin handles commissions (if it does), but not sure if it's really necessary. The share cap seems silly to me though...it's a fictional market with fictional money...why can't we buy fictional millions of shares? In the end, the stock simulator is exactly that: a simulator. It's not meant to be realistic and meant for testing ideas and strategies (and maybe making a few dollars along the way). If you're looking for a more realistic simulator there's lots of other ones out there that would provide a better experience.
This seems like a complicated procedure that achieves the same goal as the process that's already in place. The stock simulator we have in place is simply a simulator and isn't meant to be 100% realistic, but rather a small side form of income for players. I don't mind the stock trader being a little more realistic, but I don't see any need to change it right now.
The stock trader wasn't meant to be fully realistic. Like goblizz mentioned, the real markets allow day trading, but they don't let you see 15 minutes into the "future" (the info delay through the API means the real market is 15 minutes ahead). Ours also doesn't support anything you'd really hope it would (splits, ticker changes, reverse splits, buyouts, short selling, etc). While it does have the capability to support purchase fees and commissions, the 15 minute information delay still prevents it from being practical to allow day trading (you could easily see if a stock was going to spike enough to make your commission back). As far as a buying cap, I'm not sure if it's supported. Given that your proposed changes still don't make day trading viable I don't see them adding any value.
Yes I agree with this.... it is still possible to make a 30-45 minute hold min.... And shure you may not need to have a share cap.... but please make it so that there is. 30-45 minute hold time not 3 days... I would realy like to practice day trading and 30-45 in not to long.... or to short for eco.. thank you
The delay was much shorter at first, but had to be raised to those 3 fucking frustrating days for some reason. I honestly don't know the details because they are rarely made public, I just know that there was a reason (otherwise it wouldn't have been raised to 3 days in the first place, I guess)
To summarize the reasons: www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/threads/suggestion-revamp-stock-market.154958 www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/threads/suggestions-stock-market.146561 As others have said above, the stock trader was never meant to be realistic and will never be. ECC's stock trader is not suited for those seeking realistic trading, dedicated simulators exist for that purpose. If the stock trader was never meant to be for short-term profit but is instead supposed to be a long-term investment, why do we need to change it to allow short timespans?
