Denied Add a swear filter?

Macro is not a good excuse for a server not to implement changes that increase usability for players. In fact, macro is a lazy excuse. The server should implement this because it makes things easier for everyone involved, not just the people with macromod (which isn't even updated anyway)

Because it's better? Usability = better. Is this a difficult concept?

 

Can we do that for Lotto, sg, ignore list as well?

Okay, now you've confused me. Opt out is when you opt out of swearing. AKA, turn the filter off. Andrew stated it will be on by default.

 

I'd love that to be persistent throughout restarts, it makes things so much better.

Only add a filter if you're going to make it an optional filter.

 

Regardless, he'll have to wait because there's not a MacroMod for 1.9 yet (unless they updated it).

 

When this is implemented, I think it would be appropriate to be very strict with those choosing to bypass the filter. There is no excuse anymore.

Possible Bypasses Being:

• Spacing words with symbols
• Using symbols in place of letters
• Intentional mispelling (get the joke?)
• Breaking the word apart with spaces

I could go on.

On a side note, please make sure this filter works properly with the /shout command. I see many issues if it isn't tested before release. (/Shout allows color formatting and bypasses the caps filter, it may behave differently than normal chat channels.)

 

Not sure If this has already been said, but chat filters can keep out a lot of words like ive had many words that are innocent such as "as, cant, don't what" and many more with other swear filters.

 

I'm interested to know in the new swearing rules based on if this filter is applied in order to know how staff are to handle things like this.

 

I think a swear filter is a good idea, but only with two restrictions.

1. Swear filters are only in public channels. This is because what people PM each other is private, many people swear in PM's while not directing the swearing at each other and as far as I know swearing through PM has always been allowed.

2. Only block real swear words. Not swear words with spaces ("$hit" vs "$ hit"). This is because it can end up censoring things that aren't swear words at all. Today I was on another server with a swear filter and "Shouldn't it" got censored because of the last 3 letters. There are many other combinations of words that could result in censorship. This could make it easier to bypass the swear filter, but this could be solved by kicking or banning someone who is clearly abusing this to bypass the swear filter.

no lag. It would have to be really shitty will it lag any server. And I mean so shitty that it's likely to crash the server. (which shouldn't even be possibly with chat events, but really shitty code defies reason)

Jamie, please explain why the ignore list is not persistent? I am sure you realize it is annoying to have to ignore the same players, sometimes two or three times in a day it seems

 

Because it's not possible the way Herochat works. It deletes itself on restart of server

 

I'll just assume player metadata is the reason?
Shouldn't ECC have the resources for either a fancy SQL database or at least a less fancy flat file database? .-.
