When you create a lift sign you need to have a destination set directly above it, so if you were to set 1 block as a lift and another as the destination would you not then constantly be tp'ing up and down if it was automatic??
I think you could do this with redstone and pressure plates. **edit** yep. you can use a pressure plate connected to a lift with redstone for instant lift.
As @FuriuosGeorge has stated this is already possible with a redstone lift setup Marking as accepted as it is already a thing.
