http://www.ecocitycraft.com/wiki/index.php?title=Wiki_Team_Main_Page#Guides_and_Walkthroughs Are any of these relevant anymore? From the looks of it, i think they could definitly be updated. Pretty much all of them tbh. Also these? http://www.ecocitycraft.com/wiki/index.php?title=Wiki_Team_Tutorials They are ancient, and could do with a fresh lick of paint, or gotten rid of imo. You guys/gals thoughts?
All of them seem to still be relevant except for the Anvil combination tutorial (does anybody really care about that?). A quick update shouldn't be too strenuous. I would suggest posting topics in the basic tutorials sub-forum that would gauge other players on their strategies in regards to mining and farming and sg and whatnot and then updating the tutorials with that information.
I looked over it a while ago Of course they're all outdated - nothing significant has changed recently
They are definitely outdated, but if we remove them, are we planning on replacing them with something else?
Would be nice if we replaced them with something fresh. Each one of us could take an article and update it? Being we aren't really required to do a lot. Would be nice if we warrant our job title by actually doing something
Honestly, I am not good at doing any of those things, lol. Plus, I only got added to the wiki team as a default when I got Server Admin. I can try to write something, but I have no idea what.
I can probably update sick24's Survival Games one comprehensively to include the new changes, as well as possibly implement a Stock Trader tutorial explaining the reasoning of why everything is different. Plus, an effective sportsbook tutorial or two will come from me during the NFL season (as I plan to be actively on the forums betting). Also, would it be a good idea to ask the community for some tutorials? Do something where people write tutorials, we edit/revise them, and post them on the wiki if they are up to par?
@Nicit6 @TaylorBros22 @goblizz May i ask your thoughts on the User Submissions Tutorial section on the wiki: http://ecocitycraft.com/wiki/index.php?title=User_Tutorials http://ecocitycraft.com/wiki/index.php?title=Wiki_Team_Main_Page#User_Tutorials --- What do you want to do with it? Would you like some tutorials from the board posted in there? If so whats the point of having them on the wiki? Could we create a subforum in the tutorial section saying 'Wiki Selected Tutorials' So that people will know that these tutorials will be kept updated or relevant? I think it would be a nice touch, when we decide which ones are going on the wiki, we can post in the topic and say: 'Congratulations, your tutorial has been chosen to be added onto the Wiki section located here: LINK" Obviously a little more jazzed up. If you guys dont quite understand what i'm talking about I can make some images to show you what it would all look like. --- I just think those bottom 2 section are simply not really being used enough and could very easily be hidden and no one would know they have gone. Would be nice to jazz it up a little.
@Mission001 If I'm understanding right, I see it like this: The first link - well there isn't anything there, so I think it could do with some user submitted things, however no-one seems to want to provide anything: In this case- we get rid of this section and any users that want their tutorial published have to have it go through a wiki team member, and then where we say who it was authored by it could say: Written by: [Username], Edited and Published by: [Wiki member] This would then mean all the tutorials are in the same place. Personally, I would like to see the articles written by the team more accesible. At the moment there's a couple steps to go through to get there, quite confusing for new players, looking at the wiki. Maybe we just need a clear out of the wiki completely, and redesign the look of the main page? A lot of work, but with improved graphics and text, it could look a whole lot better imo
I would like to just go ahead and do it and organise it on the main page this i think it should be laid out but i cant as only admins can edit the main page if i'm correct in saying that. What I see now is this, I have bordered the stuff that really needs changing: 1. Why is that tutorials there under Network Tutorials, its should be over by the 2nd highlighted square under basic information. Thats where it should really go. 2. The tutorial that is posted in that section under number 2 isn't a builders guide....As it talk about mayors and Towns...It should be renamed to Welcome to ECC Guide and should be rewritten to include more thing that are also in the tutorial section in the actually server. You could then actually have a builders guide under that section. And then you have 3 links under General Information. 3. The whole section needs to be overhauled and laid out better, as @TaylorBros22 said, not many people probably know where to click to get into the main wiki section. I think it should be laid out like so: Obviously the text would be slightly different as i couldn't find the exact match. This draws people to actually click and enter the Wiki section. The layout also gives people a quick way to see updated pages in the section if they don't want to constantly open multiple links to get to the page they want to see. This would make it look like this: Spoiler I would do this but like i said earlier, i cant cause i don't have permission to edit the main page...but this is 100 million time better in my opinion. That and with the new wiki graphics that will be added soon from the comp, it will be a nice new redesign. If you like it, please gimme permission to redesign it <3 Pretty please with a cherry on top xD @Nicit6 @andrewkm (Although I presume Andrew will not mind either way ) @TaylorBros22 @goblizz If you want to see a working prototype of it, its hidden in the wiki here: http://ecocitycraft.com/wiki/index.php?title=Testing1
Seems reasonable. I'd be willing to help overhaul those Intro to ECC Tutorials if need be Also, as the wiki gets more in-depth, I might add some sportsbook tutorials and stock trader tutorials if that's ok with everyone. And of course, I'll finish that /2fa article as well!
Sounds awesome! --- Also If you want to see a working prototype of what i suggested, its hidden in the wiki here: http://ecocitycraft.com/wiki/index.php?title=Testing1
I'd also be happy to help with a complete wiki overhaul! But nicit, me, @Mission001 and @goblizz just need some permissions xD I'd also like to see the banners changed, as they are pretty boring
