Hello. I have been playing Ecocitycraft for a while now and have noticed that people swear. alot. I think that this is a issue and there should be a filter, for example when someone tries to swear, the chat would auto change it to "******". I feel this should be chnaged becuase i do not want newbies to come on and think that this is a bad server. I hope you take this into account and somehow change the swearing in the chat. This has been suggested like 100 times a lot of filter plugins are glitchy as hell besides this is the internet.
having a plugin that censors words in chat is not a bad idea. but would allow bad intentions. lets say for example i said "rude not ECC ok word" in chat. i would get a warning/possible temp ban depending on my actions. now if there was a plugin censoring chat it would show up as "****" not a terrible idea but it allowed me to type something not appropriate without being punished. now for a second situation. if the censoring plugin was to bug out and or fail.. chat would be full of people who have been typing "not ok ECC words" and they would show up as words and not asterisks.
Staff likes to moderate that themselves to keep track of a person keeps saying bad words. Plus people will always find a way around a filter
Swearing is a part of human nature and the argument that we should filter out swearing for the sake of avoiding exposing kids to it is a waste of breath. Swearing happens on the server just as it does irl, the only reason it should be moderated is maintain the professionalism and integrity of the server, which the mods already do a good job of.
@Madeline630 - This is a great suggestion, unfortunately there is no filter that works well enough to ever beat the trolls. Our moderators really try to keep it down most of the time when they can. I never have understood why anyone has to type out a cuss word - yes, I can see them slip when talking - but typing? This is normally 12 year old players trying to get attention and it is best to just try to ignore them. It is unfortunate that more can not be done to eliminate the cursing, talking about drugs and drinking, and inappropriate links as my nieces and nephews (all 10 of them are home schooled) do not want to play here because of the trolls.
I really do hope that we can change this. Definitely from my point of view we have taken steps within the staff team to adjust how we handle trolls recently (As in within last few days and weeks). Only time will tell how effective they are. One thing I would say is that myself, Jakey and Phys are very fed up of trolls and are committed to getting rid of them. Hopefully we can, but rest assured it is something we are working towards achieving.
I also feel that changes have been made and appreciate any efforts on the part of staff and owners in hunting down and eliminating them I also understand how difficult this is, especially since I personally believe that many of the trolls are just here to cause trouble as they have moved on to other servers to actually play - sometimes only returning here when banned elsewhere and have nowhere else to go since there is no better place for them to be. Many of the trolls are really just jealous since ECC did not "go down" when they left and in fact is succeeding in many areas - while it may not be perfect, it is still by far the best Hardcore Economy Server available and that seems to frustrate many.
I am happy that the amount of trolls have drastically gone down. There still some trolls but the staff seems to have calmed them down for now.
Or maybe people should not be so conservative, sensitive and realise that words are just words and the context is what matters. People will always swear and you will have to deal with it.

Immature? You do realise we are all playing minecraft right? Im not saying we should all swear like crazy but saying 1-2 swear words from time to time should be alowed and without consequences. And yes it maybe unnecessary, so what? 70% of everything we do is unnecessary that doesn't mean we shouldn't do it if we want to.
I bet you that even the youngest among the ECC players have already been exposed to them. They have to be locked in the basement to have never heard them at this point on TV, the internet, school or even their own parents.
It's not the kids being exposed to it, it's their parents who just happen to walk by while someone goes off on a curse laden rant, then said parent deciding that their child does not need to be exposed to "that kind of language" and telling their kid they can't play here anymore. Now that younger player either needs to a) obey and never return or b) hide what they are doing from their parents. It depends on the parent to determine where that line is (9? 13? 17?), so keeping it cleaner here helps keep those new, young players stay with parental permission. And seriously, "they've already been exposed" is a pretty lame cover up for "I don't give a xxxx"
You are right and I am not hiding it I really don' give a **** and their parents are morons. If they don't want their child to hear "bad" words they should not let it use the internet... or go to school.... or watch TV and so on.
