Ever since I started playing Minecraft on my new computer, I've never been able to hear any sounds... I have asked everyone and no one has given me anything to solve this. My sound is all the way up on my computer and my Minecraft game.
I don't know if I can help but I'll throw some random things to look at and you can ask/tell me if you need more explanations: 1) Check the speakers? Maybe your speakers are un-plugged or just faulty. 2) Check your "Playback Devices" settings. Make sure it has your correct speakers selected. 3) Check speaker drivers are up to date. Some questions I have for you though is that is it just minecraft? Can you hear music? etc. etc. Please give as much details as possible. The terms "speaker" and "problems" are very vague.
If it's just minecraft it means a few things: 1) This is probably a bug with the recent version or you're using an old version (since there has been issues of "no sound" in past versions) 2) You could be using a mod that conflicts with something that causes the "no sound" effect. 3) Re-installing minecraft (by deleting your %appdata%/.minecraft folder and running the launcher) might resolve these issues. You can save your META-INF file to the side to save your mods just in case it is not resolved and you still want to retain those mods.
In-game. Press F3 + S. This will reload the sounds for minecraft. Y0u will see the screen freeze for a sec when you do this to know you did it right.
This usually happens to me too and I tried the f3+s and it works so you should try that Sent from my ONE_TOUCH_960C using Tapatalk 2
Sorry to hear that. Hopefully the f3+s command will work. I tried this (with not having any issues) and it doesn't seem to toggle sound for me, though my frames drop to 0 FPS for a second.
It doesn't "toggle" the sound. It just force reloads the sounds. For example: On my laptop, if I start the client with the sound turned all the way off. Even if I turn the sound up using my options, I cannot hear jukebox music (sometimes). If I then hit f3+S, the sound resources reload and I hear them again. It doesn't turn anything off, it just gives the client a "kick" to wake-up. Like hitting a TV.
Okay @monkeyBUTT244, I'm going to ask you to do a few things so we can pinpoint the issue here. It's either something to do with minecraft or your computer. I still think it's minecraft (files missing, etc.) so if this is true a few things should be happening that you can document/screenshot: When starting up your game, screenshot the launcher details. If there is any files missing (i.e. audio) then it should note that. What version are you running? The current 1.7.9 or an older one? Can you hear sound in main menu? No sound everywhere? Be elaborate as possible and write down any details that you think may pertain to the issue. In addition to that, try the F3+"s" key command multiple times again. Apparently even if it registers the command, it may be faulty (according to a number of random forum posts of people talking about same issue). Also like Emau said, it does reload your sounds but if there's something buggy with your client, like it's missing the sound files, then it won't be able to reload anything. Since you already re-installed minecraft, I don't think that's possible. Just in case, go download a fresh minecraft.exe file from Mojang and delete everything in your %appdata%/.minecraft folder. Hopefully we can resolve this issue soon.
I'll try to be as clear as I can about everything. 1) There are absolutely no files missing, no errors, and everything seems to be in order. It downloaded and finished downloading everything. I'd prefer not to upload a screenshot though, for security reasons. If you can maybe tell me some lines I could look for in the Development logs I'd be happy to do so. Otherwise, I personally don't see anything wrong. 2) I am currently running version 1.7.9 and have been on the up-to-date version every day of me playing on this computer. 3) I cannot hear any sound whatsoever. Main menu, any other servers, or the minecraft default music. As I have said before, I have my sound all the way up, have checked through my files and everything. I know this has nothing to do with mods because I have never had any until today (OptiFine) and it has been the same before. I feel this may have something to do with some files interfering with eachother on my computer or something of the nature... Not sure if this is possible for Minecraft audio files though. Thanks for trying to help me fix this, you've been a huge help so far.
I understand completely and the information you've given is more than enough. It seems like there might be an issue with the sound files (even though it doesn't appear). I think the location of the sounds folder is misplaced, etc. There was a fix for version 1.7.2 but it seems it's no longer viable. I want to try this theory out though: If the sounds folder is the issue, then replacing it with another sounds folder should fix the issues. Since I don't know where the sounds folder is for the default resource pack, I suggest installing a different one that offers sounds like Better than Default. You can install any resource pack you want but try to find ones with sounds included, just to test this theory out. If it works then you might have to use a resource pack until I figure out where the damn sounds folder is... (The only folders pertaining to sound that I found was in directory %appdata%/.minecraft/libraries/com/paulscode) I hope the resource pack can fix these issues.
