/ignore command

I wish this could happen, I'll be honest.

However, there is a very simple flaw. We have shouts so that they get the attention of everyone, literally. For this reason, I find it highly unlikely we will change.

 

I think this should be implemented. I've seen the shout command used specifically to bypass a player who's ignored them. Often, the very reason someone wants to ignore a player is because they're spamming shouts. It goes against the whole point of /ignore.

I agree with the idea but I'm just wondering why you wrote "Lol no" in a thread where the idea is virtually the same. Honestly, I would like to see this happen for shouts and mail as these are the two ways players can bypass /ignore. (Well there are more ways but these two are the only way where a user can directly bypass /ignore.)

 

Although I find it annoying when people shout just to get attention and to bypass /ignore, if this was implemented people would shout less meaning more inflation.

 

I think that you're exaggerating the economical impact. This would have a very minimal effect on the quantity of shouts, and I believe that the ability to fully use the ignore feature is more important than a few thousand ECD's everyday.

 

But that's not a bad thing. That user is wasting their money to do that. Possibly 10 shouts, or even more. That's taking $10k+ out of the economy. That's not a bad thing. Overall on the suggestion, so long as it can be implemented, I don't see an issue with it.

 

Fair enough, but I'd rather have the player's wish to ignore the other's chat be respected than 10k taken from the economy.

For some people they just shout to get attention. If you have been online during when that happens for some people the chat is filled with shouts, if this was added everyone would just ignore the guy. Therefore he wouldn't shout, not taking money out of the eco.

 

Money is going to be taken out of the economy always and this one user spamming shouts every now and again would pull out a miniscule proportion to the total lost each day. Is this one or maybe few others shouting worth tossing out this entire suggestion? And the next questionable thing is that you're assuming that everyone will ignore the guy. If their true purpose is to get attention, they're going to shout probably because as you said (1) for attention and (2) the user shouting won't know who has /ignore'd him until much later. The assumption that people are going to shout less doesn't seem likely mainly due to those two points. Even if point one isn't true, the latter would remove the stigma of shouting even if /ignore affected shouts. It's the same principle of when people still talk to other players in global when the other player may have them /ignore'd.

You have some good points there, but I never intended to "throw out this entire suggestion" I am just trying to put this on the discussion so people can consider this before they make up their minds about this discussion.

I thought /ignore already ignored shouts. I guess I wouldn't know since I've never used the command. +1 anyways

 

/ignore should=forever until you do /unignore

 

I believe when the server resets, the /ignore list for each player, channel they were in, and other temporary data like that is reset as well. That's why your /ignore isn't forever - since it's not saved and logged, forever.

 

If I want to /ignore someone (essentially block them, like on other programs and games), then I want to ignore them. Personally, I find no excuse to allow bullying and harassment to continue. Money out of the economy or not.

Assuming all SM+ could check logs, then I do not find it as important for /ignore to work on /shout and /mail. However, because it is only a couple of people who can check logs (and they only do it for extreme things), I would highly prefer to have /ignore work on /shout and /mail.

However, last I knew, it was not possible for /ignore to work on /mail, and maybe even /shout. /mail is not the same plugin (or default Minecraft) as /ignore. I'm not sure about /shout, though.

Just because you spend money, doesn't mean you should be able to contact the person who is ignoring you. I think it is important to respect others.
