Open Discussion: This is why a raise in price is needed since you can only you can make around 14k an hour maximum. Having to buy a 700k-900k tool just to make 14k an hour isn't reasonable. Raising melons would also hopefully increase the netherstar market which in turn would help the economy. With the example price of $1.85 you would still only make 15k-16k an hour and you require a 800k tool to do so. This seems reasonable to me.
Do you really think melon swords would cost however much they do if silk touch could be applied to a regular sword?
Remember that in 1.8 they will be able to be broken with axes. (Or has this been fixed/ stated? Im not sure)
It was confirmed on the old andrewkm twitter, which has since been removed. I will take a look into my post history to see if I have a screenshot.
So why have a star tool to farm them then? That would also say that mining requires no effort (which it does). People have different ways of spending time on the server, and people like farming so they should get the same income with their star tools than any other of the star tools.
Melon Prices really need to go up for the following reasons: The fastest method to make money via farming is Melon Farming. All other kinds of farming are slow and inefficient and people lose incentive to farm for money as melon farming as profits from melon farming is just a tad higher than pumpkin farming. People invest 700-900k on a tool to make money and should be able to get money in an efficient manner. Currently Melon farming reaps in around 10-15k/hr, compared to that, an Eff7 can reap in an approx 15-25k/hr EVEN if you have a bad mining run. However a melon sword costs 500 more nstars (around 200k right now) than an Eff7 but makes less money. So think about it. It should be reasonable that a 800k star tool should be able to make more than 15k hour max, so raising the price of melons by just a couple of cents, will benefit the economy greatly and may help raise the nstar market and the increase the demand of melon swords again.
+1. The current state of things just doesn't make sense. One of the most expensive tools if not the most expensive tools on the server makes less money than my eff5 pick. 10-15k/h from msword (i don't have msword but i have asked around) against 17-22k/h from eff5 pick. Mellons should be like 2.50$ per piece to catch up.
It is not about the 'effort' of farming. It only makes 12-15k an hour you can't deny that. Yet you have to buy a 800k tool to make less than the cheaper eff 7 can make and to farm you need a farm rather than just finding a location in the mining world.
