Are unpowered beacons ok, or do they cause lag? (by unpowered I mean with no gem pyramid below and neither giving any status effect nor emitting any beam of light: so, just for decoration and as a simple light source block).
If they are ok, what about powered ones? Are they ok too?

 

Good question. Also, can hologram text within the tutorials be easily adjusted to fit any given space, or do you need a certain minimum amount of space to place them? I've noticed that the ends of a hologram can disappear into walls.

No blocks that cannot be placed on ECC should be used in the spawn build I believe and from what I know beacons are not able to be placed in ECC currently? Not entirely sure on this fact though. Asked numerous users and no one knows for sure.

Holograms cannot fit a certain size, The size is based on the amount of words used on the hologram, Jamie has recommended to me to make sure there is an over estimated amount of space for the hologram to be placed.

Can we make sure that advice that is being passed on privately to individual competitors is being posted on this thread as well? I think it's a bit unfair if specific advice is being given out one on one, and not to everyone.

 

Beacon blocks cannot be placed by players, however there's already a couple beacons in our current spawn, probably because they were originally included in the design and/or because they were added later by SA (or idk which staff rank).
But those are just a couple, while I was wondering whether I could use them as light sources: so I'd probably place around a hundred or more XD therefore it's crucial to know whether they cause lag or not.

Also: what about armor stands?

I guess it wasn't done on purpose, probably that happened to be told during casual chat. But I do agree that some requirements should have been dwelt upon more, as some details are coming to light only now that we're in the peak of the build process.

 

Damn o.o, I asked in Jamies podcast as a out of the blue question as I was building at the time, it causes no harm for the question to be asked again. I suggested that I make an over estimated amount of space and he recommended that I do, that was all...

 

Oh I thought the beacons that were there before were removed. I recommend instead of using beacons, sea lanterns are very similar in the way they look and provide a good light source. :D

 

Oh, I didn't mean that anyone had done anything wrong... I could just as easily have done the same thing.

In other news, I think building the tutorial is the worst part...

I would like the record to reflect that it is fiendishly difficult to find new teasers to post, without giving away the main features of the build. EDIT: In fact, observant architect-types will notice that two of these four pictures are of the same spot from different angles ... which is more than I noticed before I posted them.
