@a18greek18 Could you do me a favor, and provide any specific instances where this idea will have a negative impact, or even better, a real situation where it would have? Everyday, just like @oootopia said, I see complaints that must've been so hard to file. This about personal issues should simply not be in the public eye. May I provide an example? What if someone, like a relative, personally attacked you on the server, bring up personal issues? If you wanting to file a complaint, you'd have to post an unedited screenshot to the forums, which contains your family's personal information, your name, and in some cases, very private family issues. Like I said, this will have to be an unedited screenshot, so you cannot block out or censor any names of family. Wouldn't that be terrifying?
You'd have the option of making the complaints public, which I feel most users would do in this instance for those types or complaints.
I'd personally like them to stay public. If you're suggesting to make it private when the complaint is still being handled, you'd also have to make them private in the archives. The problem with that is that you can't do research on people's history, which can lead to more scams in some cases. -1 for me
If i understand @oreo1227 correctly, the complaint section would be private and the archives would be public? I actually do not think this is helpful. This would delay the harassment, but would not prevent it. Folks would just start the trolling after it is closed. A simple section where all banned players are listed including the reasons for their bans would protect the other users without revealing the situation to the public. The only issue with this would be if the Staff were also involved in the harassment or trolling, but I don't think our Game Admins would allow that to happen. There should be a private grievance section to eliminate the harassment and drama surrounding complaints.
What I recently suggested when asked in-game about this. For private complaints: a private archive for them (similar to what we have now, only completely hidden from non-Staff)
@Sheep_mage Um, my suggestion is that you can have your complaint be put into private archives if you'd like to put be put there.
Is it possible to make it so someone can file a complaint and it will be posted in the public section but the poster of the complaint is hidden? So that everyone can see the complaint but the person who filed it would be anonymous, so nobody would know who filed it? This would work for pretty much any complaint except things like loan scamming etc where youd file normally? --- I dont think privatizing the section is the right way to go as many have said the positives and negatives of doing that, but it would be nice if people could file complaints with the knowledge that they wont be hassled after from others because they followed the rules and filed a complaint when deemed appropriate.
Completely didn't address the whole "list of bans" section, pardon me on that. That may (not) be a solution to a player's past. I don't know if we would change it, but maybe have it permissible to ask a Staff member if someone has had a successful complaint in the private archives. Example: Billybobjoejuniorthethird is banned for scamming, and the complaint was private. The public archives show no sign of him scamming, however a Staff member would be able to confirm. Whether that would be implemented is beyond me. Obviously if we change up the system we use, there will be a substantial amount of changing we'd need, but that's a given with changes for everything.
Literally what this suggestion is suggesting. Why is everyone talking about privatizing complaints and shit? That's not the suggestion.
@kukelekuuk00 @oreo1227 Privatizing the user is the suggestion, however a private complaints sub-forum or the ability to list a compliant as private would also be feasible, although not perfect solutions to the problem.
Er, you can already contact a GA or SA in situations like that. It's not really made known that you can, although I'd think thatd it would be common sense to.
@Nicit6 I actually tried to contact the moderation in an attempt to handle it without posting a public complaint and was told that it was not an option to do so. So if indeed it is an option it needs to stop being like a secret menu item even half the staff don't know about. Perhaps at the top of the complaint forum it could note clearly that private complaints could be taken directly to admin.
Here is my opinion. The only information we need to keep public is the history of all bans, listing who was banned, when/how long for, and why. Of that, it is essential that we keep a public record. Of all the rest, pardon my elegance, I just don't give a f**k. On the contrary: I consider it a waste of time having to read through all that drama only to find out whether someone who I'm giving a loan to was actually banned or not. So, given that compiling and updating such a list would be trivial (staff would have to just add a line each time a complaint ends up in a ban), I'm all for it.
Why can't We make complaints private? It seems like the only reason for having them open is the availability to knowledge... But you may receive that with ban appeals. Ex. I've had a few complaints towards me for hacking. I don't hack. Staff knows I do not hack. So why should that complaint be made public? If I were to have been hacking it would be made public in a ban appeal. +1 to the idea. -1 to people that read these for fun. Its none of their business unless they're related to the complaint and tagged.
