[Suggestion] Auction Plugin

Suggestion: Using an auction plugin, such as iAuction, to run user auctions within the server.

Reason: I believe this would be beneficial to the server in many ways. There is a lot of confusion among new members about how to auction. Although there is no set process, they still don't understand how they are to go about auctioning items off. The plugin would also ensure honesty on both the buying and selling ends. The person auctioning the item would have to follow through with the sale in an allotted amount of time, while the buyer would have to follow through with the bid. The transfer of funds and items would then occur automatically, preventing auction scam.

Any Other Information: This would cut down on a lot of problems within the server auction process, and would make the player experience a lot more enjoyable due to the reduction in scamming. I also saw 2-3 instances this evening where builders were asking how to auction. This process would be a lot easier to explain and work with.

This is true, however, rather uncommon. Users would be just as successful selling unlimited use of these services in /ch tr. I am also looking into a way to be make that possible, but unsure if it would work.

 

I'm sorry, wasn't meant as sarcasm. That is a valid point, but I think the positives of an automated auction plugin would outweigh the ability to "customize" each auction.

In previous cases, you are correct. I am trying to combat the issues that caused it to be declined.

 

I feel that the "spam" that would be caused by the plugin is far less than the current spam from auctions. Currently, we must see the announcement, all bids, hearing all bids, g1, g2, g3, and sold. With the plugin, all you see is the original announcement, the bids, and the sold message. It seems there is far less spam with the plugin than without.

In terms of the time, I think that would be a pro to the plugin. The set time would prevent auctions from dragging on longer than they should and prevent users from "forgetting" about an auction. For your second point, not being able to ignore a bid, I don't see why this is an issue. If a user has the applicable funds and the items are exchanged via a plugin, I see no reason to have to ignore a bid. Lastly, I also don't see a problem with one auction at a time. Users are still able to create an auction, they are just put into a queue until it is their turn. Even without the plugin, most users wait for an auction to end before starting another as a courtesy. I see the plugin as doing the same thing and minimizing confusion within the auction channel.

 

UPDATE: I have a potential fix for the inability to auction off services (such as TP, Water Placement, Ereps, etc). I was think of adding something (such as a book) that you receive to verify the services. For example, with Investigator there is /lb tb and you receive an ice block. What if there was a command added for each of the donation features that would give you a book of some sort that said "TP Feature" or "Water Feature" and then the username of the user that originally received it (owns the feature)? You would then auction that book off, and whoever won the auction would receive the book, which could be used as proof/evidence that the service was sold to them.

It also goes back to the screenshots/evidence issue as it has always been. When you win an auction for this, I would suggest screenshotting it anyways. There's no way to prevent scamming with the current system either, you are required to screenshot winning the auction as proof. The sale of services, as mentioned by jwpwns, can also be done just as easily in /ch tr.
