Minecraft Name: Legotom001 Suggestion: That ecc celebrate more holidays (non-christian) Reason: I see ecc celebrating a few (christian) holidays and I feel this excludes some members of other religions. Any Other Information: First, I am sorry if this counts as a touchy subject. Second, with this, I am not trying to sound in anyway that I am trying to discourage or bash any religion. Link To This Plugin/Is this a custom addition?: N/A
That is a good question, to help stay away from makinb this count as a touchy subject, I was thinking that could be some thing that ecc staff members could come up with.
The only "Christian" holiday we really celebrate on ECC is Christmas, which has evolved to be largely secular. Yes, it's origins lie within Christianity, but it's celebrated by many people who don't affiliate with Christianity (Like myself, for the matter.). If you can think of some Holiday that's celebrated by many people regardless of religion, great, go for it. But otherwise I don't see many holidays that would present a large option here.
Though this link doess include religion spsific holidays, it also has secular holidays listed under "secular". https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_multinational_festivals_and_holidays
I agree with this. Also, whilst I can see your point and I think it is a good thing to be a multi-faith society, I think it could get too excesive. For example someone wanting to celebrate a holiday/event from some very small religion. If we celebrated them all, we would likely have a different banner/event more or less everyday. Personally, I think we are fine the way we currently do things.
I don't see *why*. I don't think anyone is hurt about Christmas being the only holiday, at least, not until you brought this up. And, if the December suggestion hadn't been posted, we would have avoided a lot of drama anyway. FOR GOODNESS SAKE, the December suggestion had very little if nothing to do with Christianity other then the fact that it was related to the Christmas holiday. (though someone please point out the connection between Santa and his elves and Christmas; seriously) I suggest this and the other thread be locked; it is doing way more harm then good.
We won't lock them unless the OP asks for them to be locked. If you are serious about the santa + elves = christmas thing, I'l tell you in a seperate post, I can't tell if you're kidding. I agree nothing seemed to be brought up if people hadn't gone on about it in the other thread.
I'm not saying that Santa is equal to Christmas; I'm wondering why people are against people changing into elf and Santa skins because of Christmas. Also, I do think that while it was not meant to be this will turn into a touchy subject. You'd think we wouldn't want what happened to the other suggestion happen again here.
Some people just don't like christmas. Which is fair enough, each to their own. If the thread starts going off topic we'll delete posts/warn people. There's no need to lock a serious suggestion becuase there might be a bad discussion. If we did that, most threads would be locked
I can't think of any other international holidays that aren't strictly religious. There's halloween, religious at origin, but not celebrated as a religious holiday. There's.. Valentines day, which I believe is a thing throughout most of the western world. There's.. Easter. (Also religious at origin, but bunnies showed up at some point and now it's for kids) and.. new years.. Last I checked there were events for Halloween, Valentines day and Easter on ECC. I do not think adding anything beyond those is a good idea, because there are no other well known internationally celebrated holidays. And adding religion specific or national holidays sounds like a silly thing to do.
If ECC does celebrate Halloween, Valentines day, and Easter, I would think that would cover the main non-religious non-nattional holidays. (I honestly never thought a much about the holidays on ecc untill I saw the recently posted suggestion.) If someone can confirm ECC does celebrate these holidays, I will request the thread to be locked. (note: please do not count this as a request to lock it.)
I can confirm that events have at some point occurred for all of these. Regardless, going to lock this suggestion as nothing has actually been suggested. "Celebrate more holidays" without actually specifying which holidays you'd like to see celebrated doesn't accomplish anything.
