Minecraft Name: Frostystorm1 Suggestion: A command for builders and residents (more for new users) to use in order to obtain a list of jobs that players in the server are currently offering. Reason: Builders and other new players currently have an extremely hard time starting out. Aside from voting, they have no other incoming besides mining which can yield about 1K for them. How the Plugin Would Work: - People on the server who have jobs can type a command such as /jobpost [Description]. This will cost them something like ~1K ecd or something near that amount to ensure minimal spam or false ads. (Or the people with jobs can post ads for free, but have a limit on the amount of ads they can post eg. 1 for residents, 2 for mayors, etc) - Players who are wondering how to make money on the server or players who ask in global how to make money, will be referred to /joblist for a list of current jobs. Benefits - It has the potential to aggregate a lot of trade messages from users into a smaller list that is more manageable for newer users. - The effectiveness of ads are increased, due to the fact that people aren't just spamming trade chat. - Players who are offering work can find workers easily. - Less builders leave the server, since they are given a straight forward way to make money instead of being told to "mine" or "farm". The jobs will be more specific and can cater to their individual skills. Other Information: None Link to this plugin/Is this a custom addition?: Custom Addition to the server, but probably not too hard to make.
There's /help money, which Is perfectly fine. It's not hard to ask in chat for a job and people often are looking for builders to excavate and such. I don't think it's really needed.
This would be different than /help money since it is a list of jobs offered by the users and it is a dynamic list.
Isn't the server supposed to be hardcore economy, but I do think this is a good idea because newer players are more likely to leave if they cannot get a reasonable amount of money easily. I also think that would help out starting businesses to get their first few employees. 1k ECD is fairly easy to earn anyway, so I don't see that preventing spam ads at all. If you wanted to really try to prevent spam ads that should be done by staff, but that would be a massive amount to go through and very time-consuming. TL;DR: -0/+0
Agreed with all of this, but there can easily be a limit like 1 ad per day or 1 ad per hour to reduce spam. That makes sure that the admins barely have any moderation to do on the job list.
I just think that because ECC is no longer supported by Mojang, we have to make the server really enticing to new players, Builders will enjoy making money from doing cool jobs instead of just mining all the time. Also voting is a really passive way to make money and doesn't really engage builders in the full experience of ECC.
I think this is a good idea. I mean, come on. Less hassle for us employers who have to advertise every 5 minutes saying something like "Paying CASH for people to do 'Insert job here'! /msg me for details! Hurry!". It's just /jobpost 'Insert job here' and we're done. Sure, R.I.P 1k, but that can be earned in just a few minutes tops. Also, builders then have another way of earning money, instead of the usual: Mine and farm. Because, be honest, you're not gonna get a rank by mining with a stone pickaxe or farming on a 10x10 land area, waiting 60 seconds between each water placement. +1 - Support
I did get a rankup by doing that, but I do understand where you are coming from in terms of looking for employees.
Would the ads expire in a certain amount of time though? For example, I'm a new player, I find some jobs and I contact the employer. It's taken, and I repeat that. That would take too much time and be boring too.
Yeah I think the ads would expire after a certain time period, or after the owner cancels them with a command such as /jobcancel
What time frame are we talking about? If it's short then some ads would be only costing the employer the money to and someone would never see it because it expires before they could even see it.
Well it would be up to the devs to determine a time frame, but an hour would be fair because it gives people enough time to look at the ads, without it being a waste of 1K.
I still believe there is one major flaw or something that you haven't talked about. I am assuming that the point of this is to get newcomers money. But what about the employers? How do they benefit from this? For example, in real life working is a mutual benefit for both. They employers get money by having the employee do work, and the employee gets paid. I don't see this getting implemented here. This seems to be a one-way benefit for the new players; the employer is paying for the ad, employee(s), and/or land for work. That is most likely a loss unless the employer is strictly paying the employee for one task. So, if the employer is going to lose money, they are most likely not post ads at all, and just advertise in trade chat or talk to new players independently. Imagine that on a server wide scale, practically no ads in the /job section, and a complete waste or developers' time like @JamieSinn. Speaking of which do you know long how something like this would take to develop, @JamieSinn ?
I think you are forgetting the fact that these ads become permanent under a command. Trade ads often get buried, and it can be hard for a user to keep up with ads during the peak of server activity. This is a way for users to actually post permanent ads, and as a result they will get more business.
You make a really good point there, you could probably explain a job more with /job. You could do /job [ad #] info to get info on the job.
I think it's a good idea, maybe not top priority but good idea regardless. However requiring money to place an ad in the job list, while trade channel is free to spam, completely defeats the point. To limit the amount of pending jobs, just set a limit per user: maybe 1 for Residents, 2 for Mayors, 3 for Presidents, and so on.
