[Suggestion] Languages

The world usually encourages diversity. No harm done in a hello or goodbye in another language, we don't want to seem like a server that is completely excluding all foreigners. Perhaps some people who speak multi-languages may wish to add their own home-touch to their messages with a simple:

Kamusta
Mir-dita
Ola
Hej
Konnichiwa

Etc. You get it.

 

+1 words like hola and etc are known among more English speakers than many English words are. Like Lugubrious for example, I bet if I said "hola" as a simple innocent greeting on global it would be more widely than if I said lugubrious yet only the latter would technically be allowed. And that is just silly. Then there are all manner of loaner words and etc. How about everyone get the stick out of their bum about the one word of friendly common greeting in other languages and only worry when someone starts using sentences or does it more than once?

OR if you're going to be a stickler about that then get more serious about the constant legitimate trolling and garbage that happens. People get away with stuff over and over again that is much worse and you're going to fuss at some builder trying to greet us in word that we all very well know? It is absurd.

+1. If it's one word, who are we really harming here? Sure, English speaking server, but international player base. Warning for a word of another language seems a bit preposterous.

Really, too, if you're unsure of the word being a swear/slur, drop it in Google. I'm sure you'll get your answer pretty quickly, even if it takes 10 more seconds than normal to warn for it. Plus, some ECC users are fluent or semi-fluent in other languages (even andrew), so I'm sure if those people notice it and start to question, you probably have a pretty good assessment of what the word is.

Also, side jump off of this suggestion, and I don't know if you want to include it @UnitedStates2 : Instead of just warning new users immediately when they join for saying a different language in global, attempt to get them to talk in English by speaking in that language. I've had a couple times with Spanish builders where "Hola, EcoCityCraft, esta un servidor de ingles. Hables en ingles por favor? " goes a long way. It takes a little time to throw it into Google translate (if you don't know the language), but catering to them in their native tongue could be the different between leaving and staying. ECC prides itself on being welcoming; a warn right off the bat doesn't necessarily convey a good message.

It sounds horrible, but if you can't speak English then there's no way you can progress here.
The only alternative is to use Google Translate for everything

 

Yes. We can't expect staff to know any language aside from English. Therefore English is the only one that's allowed.

 

But cant the people who cant speak English speak the other language with their friends

There's no rule against it in private chat or town local

 

But it's still warned in locals; I've been warned one or twice for talking in Spanish to help a user and seen people warned for a sentence in Dutch/French.

 

You shouldn't be warned in town local,

Usually if there is someone who joins in spawn local, we try to communicate with them and if someone is able to speak the language we get them to move them away somewhere to help them and explain it is English only.

 

So your example would still be punishable.

I don't think that "allow one non-english word" would be a good implementation of the reason behind this suggestion, however I think that the general idea is good. +1, if we get to improve it.

 

This is going to be implemented under a few specific strict conditions.

The rules will not be adjusted for this topic as speaking in another language is still not permitted, however we will be allowing a word or two here and there.

The exceptions:

1. The words are to be limited to very common greetings
2. The usage of foreign language for the greetings is not to become excessive; this would result in breaking the other languages rule

Other than these 2 exceptions, this has been implemented. Abuse of this privilege will result in punishment in-game/forums along with an adjustment to what is and isn't allowed with this suggestion.

I will also be tagging @Moderator to adjust how they handle this situation in-game.
