Minecraft Name: SuburbSomeone Suggestion: I'm suggesting that the rules be modified to allow limited discussion of politics during a select few election cycles. Reason: It's already happening, and even staff are breaking the current rules. Either we stop talking about it, or we loosen the rules, and I don't see a way we can't stop talking about it. With that being said, I do not support extended discussions regarding politics, as those could easily get heated (knowing some people ). Ideally these rules would only be in effect if the election had a global significance. Any Other Information: No Link To This Plugin/Is this a custom addition?: https://www.ecocitycraft.com/wiki/index.php?title=Network_Rules
Honestly I'd love to talk about politics on ECC, but... -1 for the following reasons: - People may become frustrated if their countries election isn't deemed to have global significance - We have a lot of kids in this server, most of them would struggle to participate in political discussions - Realistically we can't expect people to not get heated over these things, it's the internet after all.
ECC is a minecraft server. Politics should not be allowed in global channels or the forum (unless in private). It doesn't belong there.
If it gets out of hand it shouldn't be allowed anymore, but a respectful, friendly, interesting discussion should be fine.
All allowing discussions about politics in global channels does is increase the toxicity/trolling in chat. I'd rather not.
Like other said, political discussion adds hostility. ECC is meant to be a place where people have fun with all people all over the world, and elections of a particular country shows partiality and we do not want flame wars to occur. In addition, the server is now hosted in Canada and if we use the argument of where the server is hosted, we don't need to discuss US politics in a Canadian server.
I don't support adding specific clauses to the rules regarding minor things and I don't support discussing politics in global.
No. For all the reasons stated above, plus the fact, like kuke said, it's a minecraft server. If anything, discuss minecraft or your day or something like that, there's completely no reason to discuss politics at all, it just creates arguments.
- Make it no matter what country - Why not allow things to some just because others can't participate? Young kids also can't stay up late to participate in contests ect. - People get heated by everything. Literally everything. I could throw a stick in the air and someone would get offended. People talk about politics anyway mods just try and stop it and it pops back up 5 mins later in chat. You may as well just allow it.
Political discussion gets more easily heated than most discussions in global. Yes, you're correct, almost anything can become a flame war, but political discussion is GUARANTEED to start a flame war. Besides, political discussions are much more productive in party chat, where you can hold an actual debate without people just spamming their own thing, like what would happen in global. Global chat channels are simply just not fit for political discussion. All this will do is just exacerbate the current problem with trolling and toxicity in chat.
I honestly don't care whether people want to discuss politics or not. But the rules in place already state no politics. It causes unnecessary drama, flaming, and insulting. Besides, this is MINECRAFT. It's a kids game. Politics literally have no reason to be here. You want to discuss politics? It's called PARTY. CHAT. -infinity
People just want to argue. Why don't they just talk about politics in a teamspeak channel. Why does it have to be in global chat?
I literally made this suggestion to see how much people would like/dislike it. I never honestly wanted this to happen. Yes, I know that I look like a hypocrite. But I'm glad to see that most people's hearts are in the same place mine is. Mods can lock this.
