Raising the lotto tax actually results in less tickets bought and less money taken out of the economy. Every once in a while andrew messes with the tax rate to make sure it is at the optimum place.
Yes maybe. But my point was, why have a no winner round when we can raise taxes, something that i think is better. Im not saying that raising taxes will take more money out of the economy, I'm saying that i think it will take out more money than having a no-winner round
I agree with both these posts! Great idea though, would help remove money out of the economy, but also consistently keep people enthused about doing so.
I worked at a gas station for a bit and I've seen Canadians win decent prizes, cash it in and bring it back across the border. Essentially, that's the equivalent of a Builder winning $100k off 1 ticket and quitting the server. However its unlikely they'd leave after that... At least not until they've blown that money feeling all privileged and such. By then all of that money would have siphoned back into community. This is just more of a guarantee that eventually it will happen. The problem becomes figuring the odds. You don't want the chances too high with a small pot, it will deter people from wanting to bet; Also, you don't want the chance to be low on a big pot, then there's less possibility of ever getting money out of the system... So what about if the chances of a bunk draw get incrementally raised? For example: <25 tix = 1/100,000 <50 tix = 1/10,000 <75 tix = 1/1000 <100 tix = 1/100 Or maybe do something like for every 20 tickets, create 1 server-owned ticket. Make it say "You got punk'd!" or something stupid like that. I don't know... If this goes on the burner there's a lot of things to work on. +1 [/rant]
I like the idea of carrying over some of the lost money to the next lottery. That way, it eliminates the chances of when only one person plays the lottery, and win it, they always win something. So they don't lose money by winning the lottery.
In the US: Everything is taxed. The lottery is run by the government. Lets say, the winner "wins" 100mil. The government will take half of that no matter what. So, you are basically left with 50mil. Wait, thats not all. You can choose to get 7.5 mil now, or get the 50mil over the course of 370 years. Yeah, usually around 370 years. My point: Lottery is a tax on the stupid in the US.
I agree that everything in the U.S. is taxed, but the rest of your post was severely exaggerated. Last I knew for a lump sum the federal government gets 35%. Up front they withhold 25%, then the IRS claims the remainder as "taxable income" in the next tax return period. For annual payments the taxes change according to the economy. For 29 years they take a specified amount, taxes it, and sends it your way.
-1 I never play lotto as it is because of the limited chance of me winning. If there is a chance that no one will win I will not even consider using it.
Wow, except for the first and last sentence, this post is a complete fabrication. Do I tackle each sentence one by one or just say.... No. **Anyone reading that post and not in the U.S., Please be aware that all of it if ficticious and not an actual representation of either the lottery or the United States. Thank you.**
-1 if 2 people did a 1000v1000 (almost 2mil in lotto) and when lotto comes to closing and it ends with no one winning 2mil is now gone from economy. To OP!
this plugin is meant to have fun and if you take the fun out of it then its just a pit of fire where you throw your money in. this will make no reason to keep lotto so this will not be accepted by andrew. he will just take it out instead ...
