they happen at more than you think. last year when i had access to ban logs, at least a quarter of them were from spambots. (mods delete this post if its too sensitive)

This has more cons than pros.

Cons: Less bans, if one mod is on then spammers can run rampant, even if more mod is on there is more time for rules to be broken, spam to be done, advertising to be done, etc., hinders a mod's ability to ban those who should be banned

Pros: Prevents an extremely unlikely occurance that happened once in 4 years. Even if something like 3point's incident happened again, I wouldn't regret my standpoint, because in the long run and in the case of most bans, they are needed, warranted, and should not require delay. Players were off ECC for a few hours. Boo-hoo.

TL;DR Preventing the bans of a few to delay the bans of many? nah.

 

Basically, I agree with what was said before. All staff members are using 2fa security now, making the account hijacking scenario very unlikely. Also, spambots and especially alt accounts aren't that rare in my opinion.

You are suggesting limiting moderators ability to do their job with no serious benefits. The likelihood of a Moderators account be compromised is low if they take reasonable security measures. As far as I know 3point14mp's compromise was the only incident of it's kind. The likelihood that a Moderator would have to legitimately ban more then 5 accounts per hour is much higher. The solution to increasing security isn't to limit the ability of Moderators but rather to prevent unauthorized access to a Moderators account in the first place. I believe all the staff are now using 2 factor authentication. The attack caused by 3point14mp's account wouldn't have happened if he had 2fa enabled. If we wanted to increase the security then it would be better to add more layers of security, for example, requiring a password upon login in addition to the Mojang authentication and 2fa.

I hope you can better understand why this suggestion hasn't had a great deal of support.

Why are you guys changing what I say into something else??? I never said that they're 'power hungry' and 'all they want is power' What if the number is raised to 10 per 30 min? Has anyone ever had to ban 20 people in 1 hour all by them selves. The number of bans per hour could be raised by every rank also.

 

You may have not meant it that way, but what you wrote is calling staff power hungry - you're entitled to your own opinion, though.
