[Suggestion] Mods that Speak More than 1 Language

+1 Today I was banned because I spoke Portuguese in /ch g

 

Actually, you were banned because after you spoke Portuguese you came on and informed us you were a troll and a hacker. So, lets not muddle a suggestion with your 'story'.

 

Noo! I was just joking! What's a troll? I don't even know how to hack! Like hack what? Hack myself so that I can speak Portuguese... huhhh... that doesn't make sense..

 

I suggest you file an appeal and to stop posting here before things go further downhill than they already have for you with Revan, the server admin.

As for the suggestion, I feel that it isn't totally needed. The predominant language on ECC is english. I don't think that we need people speaking spanish, german, french, ect, ect. in global, and then having a translator to tell them that. They can figure that out on their own terms. Staff do a good job already telling these users that they have to speak english. Some users, like myself can speak more than english, and are able to tell them to speak english in that language. I don't feel that we need another staff member with staff powers to tell them that. -1

 

As for this suggestion. We don't allow foreign languages in global or spawn local. The reason for this is because it is an english speaking server and we don't need people cursing in foreign languages etc. We have many staff who do speak other languages. In fact, we often PM the users in the language they are speaking in order to inform them of our language rules. We take many precautions when dealing with it, however, our rules on other languages is not likely to change.

 

A few staff members speak a second language, so I don't think the rules should change in terms of language. The rules are fine as is; I agree with revanrose6.

Hey what's going on?? If he thinks it is a good idea just let it be! It's not a BIG change... It's just like a staff that knows more than 1 language and helps people... If you want to advertise this server just put: "EcoCityCraft: An Exclusive International Server" not "EcoCityCraft: A Server That Staff Don't Care About The Server's Users"

 

Why are you guys always destroying the other people's ideas?

 

1. We don't think it's a good idea, so why won't you let it be?
2. If it's not a big change, as I said before, then it doesn't need to be added.
3. We already have a staff that has bilingual members and who help people.

If you think that you two can run the server better then feel free to go directly to Andrew and subsequently get shot down by him too because this isn't even remotely a distinct issue that needs change.

We'll since Foreign languages are only allowed in private channels, this will not impact how Staff works too much. Most of Staff know a second language, either because they're foreign or because they've decided to take up one. We always try to inform the users of what to do, no matter the language, including trying to get them to speak English. (For example, I remember @iEvolive helping a builder that only spoke French start out on the server by guiding them in French via pm, perfect example of multi-language staff members as iEvo is Australian but is really fluent in French.

I know some basic Spanish and French but I am not that fluent really. I was born and raised speaking English. When we see a user speaking a language other than English at spawn or in Global chats we try to communicate to them in their language, usually however they either ignore us and spam further or are trolling. I have personally maybe see someone get banned once for not speaking English and that was because he was spamming so I do not think this is an issue.
