Minecraft Name: Dixan_Cider Suggestion: Make a rule against begging for money ("donations") in game. Create a new Forums section dedicated to only this and/or Create a chat channel for this that anyone can permanently leave. Reason: There are several players that just constantly beg for money and try to con people into giving it to them by stating false reasons as to why they "need" the money. If you take a loan, be sure that you can repay it without the use of begging. It is your loan, no one else's. If you are mayor+, you definitely have no reason to beg. You found a way to get 85k+, so do that again (unless you begged to get there). Begging does nothing for the economy. Get out there and actually do something for your money. Any Other Information: Helping people is one thing, but being constantly bombarded with beggars gets quite annoying. Link To This Plugin: n/a
People who beg don't know how to make money for themselves. I think rather than hiding the problem, tackle it. Approach the user and teach them how to earn money. Explain to them that begging is looked down upon and provide them with alternatives. You say that ignoring an issue does not solve it but by either hiding the issue by making it against the rules or secluding it to a place that you don't need to look, you are ignoring an issue.
I don't feel that the people who beg don't know how to make money. They know perfectly well how to make money. They also know that if they ask enough times, people will give money to them eventually. If there was a rule about this, the rule could also point them in the right direction to be able to learn how to make money instead of begging. There is no reason for the main chat channels to be flooded with beggars' messages.
Where do we draw the line between begging and a worthy cause needing donations? While I'll agree it can get annoying (especially if people want the money for the express interest of lottoing it) it just seems as if taking out the bad will also eliminate the good. (I realize this logic is somewhat flawed but you get my point.)
This is why I suggested a separate chat channel and/or forum section that is just for this; providing that anyone can join/leave the chat channel.
The chat channel is a very, very bad idea. Everyone would leave it, and the chat would be filled with beggers. No one would give money to them, so they would stay in trade. Basically giving a chat channel for begging is the same as the message not appearing at all.
First of all, /ch trade is the channel that they belong in. Thats just a fact. /ch trade is for buying and selling things. i.e.: its our 'wanted pages'. They want money. Its not helpful, and is in fact annoying at times, but we don't outlaw beggars in real life either. The fact is, you will always have people begging on ECC, the best thing to do is ignore them or help them make money. The worst thing to do is to give them money. As for a thread section, that would be the 'for sale/wanted' section. See argument above.
Sometimes though, just sometimes, it is for a worthy cause. Take falconaire for example. He lost his eff7 pick in a /ci accident and had to beg for money. People donated, but it was for a worthy cause because he uses the money he makes with the eff7 for his giveaways. It's not always the worst thing to give them money but in most cases it is.
The reason we don't outlaw beggars in real life has no correlation to in the game. There are plenty of things we outlaw in the game that are not outlawed in real life. I already know that the trade channel is where they currently are wanted to place their messages; however, most people don't monitor the trade channel waiting for someone to donate to. They watch this channel for things they can possibly buy/sell. This is why I suggested creating a new channel for people who are looking for donations and/or help. I think the trade and auction channels should be for buying and selling only. Giving something away for free and getting something for free is not buying or selling. I feel there should be an easy to allow people to not see any begging messages if they are not wanting to see them. By having a separate channel that is for people who are looking for monetary/item help, it will allow people who do not wish to see endless begging messages to leave that channel. And, if someone were in the mood to donate money to someone, they could simply join that channel and see who is needing help. It would allow people to choose whether or not they want to see these messages.
The thing is, no one will be. I say -1 to this suggestion because of there was a channel for begging that would be segregating the beggars from everyone else, since no one would bother to listen to them, which is borderline unfair and stupid.
LOL! This suggestion isn't banning anyone who begs from playing the game or joining/using any other channel. It is a suggestion about putting certain messages in a certain channel. This is not segregation. Learn a little more first. It is no different than putting buy/sell messages in the Trade channel and auction messages in the Auction channel.
Okay lets put it this way. There are already too many chat channels to watch. Too many chat channels running. And to top it off, I believe we have run out of colors for chat channels short of the staff colors.
-1 Creating a forum board or a chat channel for begging only encourages begging. We not want to encourage it, at all. As well, if there was a place for it, and many people know one will want to look there, they will simply find sneaky ways of begging outside of those places. It happens all of the time with trades - so it would happen all of the time with begging. Simply, making a forum board or a channel will not solve anything, and only cause more problems. As well, like Revan mentioned, there are already way too many channels (as a whole, and for Staff to watch) and almost no colors available that work for channels. There does not need to be more work for Staff when they are already overloaded in-game... Especially if that work could cause legitimate headaches due to channel color. Now, in the case of a forum board, that will still just encourage and "approve" of begging, when it is not wanted at all. It will be spammed like all hell or be dead and pointless - either way, it is not worth the time. Not to mention that it's hard enough keeping up the forums; adding on another forum section that has no "good" purpose/full of negativity in one aspect or another is a waste of time and a hassle for Staff. Just ignore the beggars, help them learn how to make money/get an item(s), or (the worst idea) do "bad" and give them what they are asking for (encouraging more begging). EDIT: On making it a rule, no. Begging and asking for legitimate donations is just hard enough to differentiate. Creating a rule that isn't too strict or too lenient could prove to be a hassle or get many people upset. Begging does no physical, emotional, or economical harm.
I agree with what revanrose6 said, that a good way to mitigate this would be to teach them how to make money -- in fact I think she mentioned this on another thread too... can't recall... Why would you want to help them make more money? More people with more money means more consumers, and as they want money they must have something they need. So, spend 20 min helping them understand a couple good ways to make money, and they may come back to you later for things they want to spend money on. I think they call this money in the bank...
