Denied [Suggestion] Rent/Buy Signs

    Suggestion:
    The server should add a plugin that allows rent and buy signs such as AreaShop.

    Reason:
    This would allow players to rent or buy apartments and houses while the seller is offline. It would also decrease the chance of a scam. For example a seller could ask for 10k for a house and get the money and not give the house to the buyer.

    Reason this wont work is because each area needs its own world guard region hence why it has never been done,

    I believe this is possible though getting the seller to do it. Such as giving them permissions but not too much or have an admin/ mod do it.

    That wont happen. mods/admins have a ton to do already. no one has time to run around to 100 towns setting up sell signs on like 20 plots or more :/
    -1, Not needed. i haven't seen any people get scammed out of a plot either :/ usually its the town owner on the short end. but not bad enough to have a plugin.

    I have mixed emotions on this....I think it would be very cool to see this on ECC, but I doubt it would ever happen. I think if this was put into the market world it would make the lives of the shop owners and staff easier.

    Make it a purchasable thing for Mayor+. 5k per "rentable sign" to keep it a decent amount of people applying for it, but it not be an obsurb amount.

    You're right, a scam most likely wouldn't happen, but it would be a good precaution.

    If I may add some information here...
    I checked the plugin URL and saw that it is based on WorldGuard; everything I will write here is based on WorldGuard in Spigot 1.10.
    From what I can see, yes. One region per plot.
    The good news: It would be extremely easy for players to create subregions within their towns.

    The really bad news: Anyone with the ability to create subregions can create towns. This permission should under no circumstance be granted to all or most users.

    The extremely bad news: Users with that permission could define any existing region on ECC as a subregion of any other region. Basically, anyone could say that spawn is a subregion of their own town, which essentially means that they would have full access rights to spawn. If everyone - or at least a significant fraction of ECC's players - had access to that, regions would become absolutely pointless because anyone who understands the commands could grief anything.

    TL;DR: This should never ever happen. How about an alternative?


    Let's say we did that.

    The good news: The really bad news and the extremely bad news I mentioned above would no longer apply because only staff members (most likely GameAdmins+) would be able to use it.

    The problems: WorldGuard requires unique region names - this applies to subregions, too (as they are essentially regions on their own). This means that we can't just use "Plot1, Plot2, Plot3, ..." for each town, but something complicated like "<townname>plot1, <townname>plot2, ...".
    As well, GameAdmins processing subregion applications would require exact knowledge about the total number of previously added plots. This would mean that an applicant would need to list all of their previous plot applications for that town. I know a lot of people who... err... "enjoy" the amount of bureaucracy ECC already has.
    Not to mention that redesigning the town would become interesting, too. In order to get rid of the plots, a ServerAdmin would be required because GameAdmins are unable to delete regions. If the user wants plot 1-7 out of 10 deleted, would the next application restart at 1 or continue at 11? It is simply becoming too complicated too quickly.

    Imagine a player applying for 5 plots... then 3... then 2, then another 5, because funds are not immediately available for everything. Now, a town redesign... a ServerAdmin removes 11 out of the 15 plots a GameAdmin created over the course of four applications. Now the user applies for 7 plots, then 8, then decides that they need another 5. Meanwhile, they are unhappy about the fact that they had to reassign new plot numbers after every new application. Hooray, a total of 8 applications that will all need to be linked in case they can free up enough space for another two plots. This example may be a little bit extreme, but you get my point.

    TL;DR: I don't think that the benefit would be enough to outweigh the bureaucratic nightmare.

    Instead of giving players all permissions of world edit or something the server should already claim key places like spawn.

    The first option I discussed above makes this impossible as WorldGuard commands cannot be regulated in such a way. If you can create subregions, you can also set the parent region of any existing region and create towns of unlimited size yourself.

    The second option - with greatly restricted access - might cause more problems than it is worth.
