Then your talking what requirements you need and then it gets complicated as well.

 

1. The fact that something is complicated doesn't automatically imply it's not worth the time.
2. Yes, this particular case might seem not worth the time of a long discussion and study, but it's actually not that complicated as well: a couple days is obviously too short, while a year is obviously enough. Then it's just a matter whether we're talking weeks or months, and the discussion happily ends.

I acknowledge this is much less important than other stuff, however it seems very simple to discuss about and implement, so +1

To be honest, I actually don't like the idea of this. I would much prefer a "merit" medal for a couple of reasons:

- Just being staff isn't really that much.
Don't get me wrong, staff do a lot, I would know. However giving ex-staff an honor that's based on the fact that they were staff simply incentives people to become staff to get it. I'd much prefer awarding for what we value, helping the community progress and grow. Will a lot of staff earn it, yes, but not all will, and you can't just get on staff to get a banner that lasts forever.

- You don't have to be staff to do something good for the server.
It's not the most frequent thing but certain players contribute leaps and bounds without being on staff. While it's not infrequent for some of these players to eventually be on staff, not all will. Even for those that do, it's a little bit silly that we'd honor them for being on staff but not the other helpful thing they did.

Course you have the issue of applying for it/deciding what earns it, but really I'd feel it best be given out at SA discretion, although possibly including an application or nomination process under certain circumstances.

 

Yeah but there are like 30000 members on this server, not just the 200 addicted to it. Granted most of them are inactive but still.

 

You have a very good point. Obviously to establish what makes you worth of that medal and what not would be much more complicated than "is a week or a month enough?", but your proposal increases the scope of the recognition as well.

A huge problem with staff is people see it as an achievement, this would only increase that issue. Being staff should not be glorified, it is a selfless thing that is its own reward in being able to give back.

 

+1 but it should only be given if the users were good at what they did to avoid it being viewed as an achievement.

This gonna be good but though, may need some criteria like being staff at least few months, works hard or etc to get the banner.

 

I'm not a big fan of incentivizing getting staff for small stuff like banners.

 

Then you have to define good of course. And then what about staff that were dedicated and awesome staff members at the time and then circumstances changed? A Rose by any other name was absolutely a staff member that was very dedicated and awesome - then $hit happens and things and circumstances changed. Would she be eligible? There are many more examples, both banned and not banned that would fit this scenario.
I really feel that staff should just be staff and recognized while serving.
There is a staff thread that recognizes all staff members, past and present.

If I may be honest: I do not want Moderator+ ranks to become 'prestige' ranks. Being a staff member shouldn't have such incentives. The staff guidebook already recognizes the efforts of past staff members.
