Alright, saying that ECC should ban swearing because it's "family friendly" is nonsense. No online community is family friendly nor ever will be. Swearing is everywhere, in real life, on the internet and on media. You literally can't escape from it, and there's no point in trying to do so. Let's face reality; This is the internet. And by no means is the internet a PG-rated community. The internet is and was intended for mature audiences and will always be. Saying we shouldn't have swearing because small children might see it is nonsense. If you're really really worried about small children seeing swears have them leave all chat channels, or better yet play minecraft single player. I do believe that we should relax swearing rules, allowing them in all chat channels at an extent.
To reiterate: Swearing sends an ugly message. I swear regularly, and view it as a personal flaw. I like things to be beautiful.
After reading this thread, I have concluded, in my own views (please note, I do the occasional swear) that swearing in itself isn't really bad. Like kuke said, changing rules will always in some way make someone unhappy. I think the way it is handled now is okay. As long as its not a "big" swear (ex. f**k, c**t, f*ggot, ect.) Little things, not directed towards others, is not really hurting anyone. EDIT: Hope I censored those enough @kukelekuuk00
Then we need to remove "Family Friendly" from our advertising. We either strengthen the language rules, or get rid of the idea that we are a server for all ages. We don't get to be both. Since all of my children are 19+, I could care less which direction we go... but we can't go both directions. *grin* Also, I just want to point out a small point of interest: The majority of the people asking for controls on swearing are over 20 and possibly (or do) have children of their own, while the majority that want to get rid of the language controls are in their teens... just something to ponder EDIT: just looked (not extensively tho) and I can't find a single mention of "Family Friendly" on the 3 voting sites. Anyone else?
I never said we didn't. I think we need to be more tolerant on swearing. It won't necessarily make us be not a server for all ages, as all ages have seen swearing before, and I think there should be rules limiting the excess in swearing. I believe something like that is located in the rules (Not sure however.), but that's what moderators say to people talking about the swearing rules.
lol, you can get banned for swearing, which is a little funny. If you guys want to really restrict banning (for all the people who enforce the family friendly policy), I know of a little pluggin that exists. Every time someone tried to curse, it would replace the whole sentence with "Don't forget to vote for (insert server here)!" You would see this every few minutes, but will you see a curse word? No. You can say a curse word, people will know you're saying a curse word, people will never see the curse word. We can all curse and nobody can see it. Unless you want people to see ur curses lol, then this isn't for u.
