I walked to a trade sign close up and clicked the sign to buy some sandstone and the server thought I wanted to buy emeralds.

    Instructions find this bug

To get this bug you need to walk up next to the sign and click it, it will think you have tried to buy the sign above.

How many times did it happen?

    This bug/glitch happened about 3 - 4 times, I didn't count. Sorry about that.

    Result

As a result, this bought the item on the above sign. I don't think anything else happened.

    Expected Result

I expected to buy the item listed on the sign I clicked on.

    Evidence

    Thanks.

When buying items from a trade sign with a block in your hand, it will 'ghost' place the block. If you were mass buying from the sandstone sign, what probably happened was it 'ghost' placed multiple blocks, causing you to buy from the emerald sign. If you rapidly buy from a sign, it will place the block, then another block on top, triggering you buying the emerald sign as well. This isn't a very good description and if someone else could explain it better that would be good.

How to fix: When you buy things from trade signs, have an empty hand or a tool. This will prevent any accidental purchases from surrounding signs.

Or you were accidentally click the emerald sign and didn't notice.

It fixed for me when I stepped back a metre (Block). But I still wanted to point this out.

Yup happened to me to, when you buy or sell to a sign stand as far away from it as possible and it will work. I was selling something to a store and topsign said buy (item x) lower sign said sell (item x) I was too close and I ended up buying from sign above instead of selling to sign below, anyways store owner did compensate me and in the future I made sure to be further away from signs in feet level ... I would say short coming detection issue
