In Game Name: Chundi_JrWhat part of EcoCityCraft is this suggestion for: Website & ForumsShort title for your suggestion: disable sportsbook for banned playersWhat are you suggesting: I am suggesting that players who have been banned from the main server also be banned from all aspects of the economy. This suggestion is specifically regarding forum gambling, such as sportsbook. Another option, as suggested by @Nicit6 below, could be for the GA/SA team to seize assets (such as forum balances) from banned players. This would then prevent the banned players from using the sportsbook feature until they successfully appeal and are able to deposit additional funds into their forum accounts. Why is this a good addition for EcoCityCraft?: First off I would like to tell a story of how this suggestion came to be. The other day I rented my melon sword to a player for 24 hours. At the agreed upon time that the sword was supposed to be returned, it was no where to be found. I had no in-game, forum, discord, or any other communications from the player I rented to. I decided to send an in-game mail in order to alert the player that the tool was late and that a complaint would be filed if the sword was not returned in the next 12 hours. Upon my next log in the following morning, still no sign of my melon sword or the player. At this time I decided it was best to file a complaint on the user. The user was tagged by a mod and alerted to the complaint, and given the opportunity to give their side. Yet another day went by with no communications. Meanwhile, I had been checking this player's profile every so often to see if they had been online, and to my surprise this player had been placing sportsbook bets throughout this entire ordeal, while not having the decency to let me know what was going on with our agreement. I was extremely disappointed to find out from a server admin, rather than the player them self, that my melon sword had been broken. This situation made me realize that our current setup with sportsbook doesn't make much sense for banned players. Sportsbook is a huge part of ECC's economy. Sportsbook gives players the ability to make or lose millions from a single bet, in a matter of hours. Why should banned players be allowed to "play the game" while being banned? We would never allow a banned player online "just to lotto" so I am slightly confused as to why banned players are currently allowed to partake in sportsbook as a server activity. I know there will be some arguments against it, and I am open to hearing them all! TL;DR: I believe that a player who has been banned from the server should not be able to participate in any part of the server's gaming experience.Other information: N/APlugin or custom addition: CustomOne suggestion per form: I Understand.
+1 It makes sense that players that are banned from the main server should not be able to participate in activities that can benefit them economically.
+1 Not really sure why they are allowed to in the first place. The fact you see people who are banned from breach of a loan contracts and yet bet on sportsbook kinda confuses me...
+1 No user that is currently banned should be able to profit in any way. They should pay the consequences and have to 'work' to be able to return instead of getting lucky on a bet and being able to return without having to do anything.
On paper this is a decent enough idea but ultimately... you're not going to get it off of paper. Are these sportsbook bans supposed to be automated? That's a programmatic nightmare that would be next to impossible to set up without truly massive forum and ban system overhauls. Are staff supposed to manually 'ban' them exclusively from sportsbook (but not the rest of the forums, or at minimum, the BA/C section)? That'd require user groups to be set up, just for this. Not to mention a GA then has to find the account and change the group every single time a player is banned or unbanned. A massive amount of work that's just not realistic. Perhaps it would be better for SA's to seize assets in scamming cases for the duration it would take to resolve them. Much easier, cleaner, and would ultimately still probably be better off. I doubt a guy who doesn't even get in touch would pay you, even if he had nothing else to do with his money.
Thank you for your input! You make some very valid points here. I would also be happy with staff seizing assets (such as forum balances) because with no way to transfer over money from the server to the forums while being banned, the players would be forced to appeal.
Unfortunately, though I like the idea, I have to agree with Nicit here. If we don't make a custom "sportsbook denied" usergroup, the GA+ team would have to manually set custom user permissions for each banned user, something we rarely do anyway as it's very easy to screw up. Even if we do make a special usergroup, we still have to manually put people in that usergroup. Unless Andrew wants to hire a Dev with xenforo knowledge to somehow link with our bans system... But I highly doubt it. I do however +1 the idea of SAs pulling the money out of sportsbook events / out of forum balance to settle debts to users, if Andrew is willing to grant them those perms.
Great idea, and I understand your reasoning for it. However, as @Nicit6 has mentioned, this is an automation nightmare, and with the amount of bans we give out, simply will never happen. (@Nicit6 has worked on the forums for years in the past, and is one of the only people to truly begin to understand why this is denied.) - Cant automate it unless I spent 100s if not over 1,000USD rewriting the ban system, and linking it to the forum. (This is a forum bank sized project, and forum bank itself cost over 1,000USD). - Won’t be done manually, ever, period. A nightmare. All I gotta say is, it sucks what happened to you, consider that person an asshole, spread the word amongst your friends, and move on. If people want to tarnish their reputation like this, it’s on them. PS: I will not have seized assets as it screws my economy statistics that I constantly need a realistic view of.
