Publish Staff Contract GuidelinesWhat are you suggesting:
The existing internal guidelines for contracts be moved to the Contracts forum. Why is this a good addition for EcoCityCraft?:
Contracts are meant to be a more secure form of trading. However, almost every senior player on ECC will avoid them if at all possible. This makes deals less secure.Other information:
Allowing players to see exactly what guidelines staff will hold contracts to ensures:
- Players will write contracts more likely to be approved, because they actually know what staff are looking for.
- Players can give feedback on said guidelines, to ensure contracts run smoothly.
- Players are likely to see contracts as less of a hassle, since there won't be unexpected changes.
Of course, I can see a couple arguments against this, including:
"Staff are allowed to deviate from the guidelines, and this will cause players to question when they do".
This is a feature, not a bug. When deviating from any guideline, staff need to be prepared to explain why they did so. Whether the explanation is provided to the players, or administration, it has to exist. If staff are deviating from guidelines and cannot provide a sufficient explanation, it's likely they shouldn't be deviating in the first place.
"These are internal to staff and shouldn't be exposed to players, what's next, public punishment guidelines?".
Unlike punishments, which remain ostensibly private, nothing with contracts is private. Every player can see every contract which is approved and every reason why a contract is denied. Everything in these guidelines is eventually visible to the whole community, so there's no reason for them to be private.

+1, this would definitely help!

>implying there are any guidelines for contracts.
For real though, I can't remember any specific in depth guidelines for contracts while I was staff, bar the obvious "just check things like dates".
While I think there are serious flaws in the contracts system (for example, overly picky "requirements" that have developed, which juxtaposes with the relatively broad implied sense of server rules, for example) making public otherwise a very simple document that doesn't state anything in particular won't solve the actual problem at hand.
While as GA, there were some developments floated of contracts, specifically in regards to changing contracts into a form (similar to how apps are done) that got realtively far along the development process. I don't know what happened in regards to that project however, as that was being lead primarily by weird. Perhaps if this project was finished then some of the ambiguity of routine contracts can be removed...-

Yeah there... Isn't any? I never once saw a proper guideline page during my year on staff... Things need to be changed and improved though I agree.

+1 I know I personally hate doing forum contracts. However, having concise guidelines would make it less likely to have to edit them when they are required.
-
I literally confirmed with staff prior to posting this suggestion that such a thread exists.
If staff, let alone senior staff, aren't reading it then I can see the issue.-

I like this idea
It would be a useful resource for players, if they knew how to better prepare their contracts it would streamline the process. On top of keeping everyone on the same page for what is truly required in a contract.
We'll look into doing this in the next couple days. Marking as in-progress-

Here we are: https://ecocitycraft.com/forum/threads/contract-writing-guidelines-tips.121729/#post-653637
I simply pasted over the requirements we have in the Staff thread over there here, updating this thread.
I also put some information about the review and approval process within Staff so users are more aware of why contracts are not always instantaneous.
If you have any suggestions for change to the requirements, feel free to file a new suggestion.-
