Minecraft Name:
physyy
Suggestion:
Allow banned users to return to the server on alt accounts.
Reason:
I feel that there are many out there who would love to return to the server and start over with a fresh reputation. Some of these users were good people who made mistakes in the past. The reason why I suggest this is because I have seen time and time again a user being banned for alt accounting who had been on the server for a while and was actually great in the community. Allowing them to return is not like they are going unpunished. They have had to get a new account, lost their ranks, money, towns, etc. So it is as if they were punished with an account wipe.
Other Information:
I would like anyone who wants to respond to this to think hard and reply afterward without being rash. I know this suggestion is a bit different but I feel that this could be good for growing the community. Allowing those who already love the place to return and build a new reputation.

I can see both sides of this. Being good and bad. We have situations where users just want to come back to cause trouble and harm. But there are some cases that i do believe will change a user. I am OK with this.
So +1 from me.-

I'd like this if we could avoid the iStomp-types from abusing this. Maybe we could have a stipulation where if you haven't been banned on any account for at least 6 months that you can return? I don't know, I think we're opening up a can of worms if the current suggestion is implemented personally.

Players who are banned are banned for a reason. Being banned is supposed to be a punishment, not something where you just get multiple chances with and keep screwing people over in the process. Imo a banned user should stay banned until they've successfully appealed and proven they know what they've done was wrong. If people mess up their reputation due to their own actions, then it's up to them to sort it out themselves, not just get out of their punishment and start fresh.
So -1 from me for now.-

Many users who get banned hard enough to warrant using an alt likely planned ahead and added their alts to all their locked valuables. So unless Staff want to go through logs, check IPs, make the hard decision that someone is or isn't a family member, clear any locks and town additions, etc. that involved the alt account's username... It doesn't seem safe IMHO.
Besides, unless you are perma-banned, you have a chance at appealing and being on your account again. Those who are perma-banned, as scarce as they should be, generally shouldn't have any reason to come back unless the ban wasn't actually warranted or done incorrectly.-

I think that formerly banned users who are simply participating in the server and not breaking any rules would actually improve the community and improve the chance for some users to successfully rejoin the community due to former fame/infamy being gone. I don't think this should be any kind of official rule, but a formerly banned user using an alt just participating in our server should not be singled out as rule breaking merely for being an alt. Realistically, with VPNs and the ease of changing one's IP the only way we do know someone is the alt of a banned user is when they rule break, so this should just exist passively.
It is not easy to start over as an unknown builder on a hardcore economy server. If they want to come back that bad and not rule break, I'll welcome them.-

This is a great idea, but this will be abused way too easily. Our ban system is actually one of the most lenient compared to other servers. If you actually put effort into your appeal, you'll get unbanned. So many appeals get denied because the appeals are honestly sh*t.

instead of coming back with a new account and go through all that hassle knowing they will probably get banned again.
Maybe they should just appeal with their main account to whoever they need to appeal to and go from there?
If their appeal gets denied, it gets denied for a reason, which they can either correct, or they've done something really wrong that they won't be returning...

Then why wouldn't you just wipe the main account...?
This suggestion confuses me. It is literally saying, "Use an alt and you can bypass your ban!" which makes no sense at all.
Just appeal, and if a person can't appeal because they are perma'd, then they shouldn't return.-

-1 People are banned for their intentional/accidental mistakes/Darn right stupidity. They should go through the appeal process on their main account like it has always been done.

These banned users can appeal, and then play on alts without repercussion. But they'll have to succesfully appeal first.
Allowing banned players on the server without successfully appealing their ban, even if it's on an alt, is absolutely bonkers.-

I do understand what you mean and to be honest, I feel bad for the people who are good people but we're bypassing. That may be their fault but if they really want another chance, they can appeal their main account and then play on the alt. No hassle.

So your saying that if I broke a melon sword that I was renting I should be allowed to come back on a alt account and not have to pay for the melon sword? I can just leave, that leaves the rentor with nothing. No thanks

Phys, you have such a great heart and are so caring.
I disagree with this suggestion for the simple fact that we have a ban and appeal system that really seems to work for the most part. Why allow banned users to return to the server on alt accounts? Why not just unban the original account? They are banned for a reason and should have to deal with the consequences of their actions imho.
I hope this reply is not considered rash as I appreciate everything you have done for our community but just think this is a terrible idea.-

Vintage_Gamer BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-President ⚒️⚒️ Premium UpgradeI think what phys is suggesting is allowing users to start on a clean slate.
-
Reincarnated_ BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-Tycoon ⚜️⚜️⚜️We all get that. But what everyone is else is saying is that if they want a clean slate, they must appeal.

What if the solution is to allow these users to privately appeal to the SA+ team and confirm their new account with them after appeal? This would allow them to face consequences but deal with them privately and rejoin the server with a clean slate, and reputation. I see a lot of people who appeal fall directly back into the same patterns. In almost all cases this is a failure of self control but in many cases it is also partially because it is what the community expects and in fact, eggs on. I can see why users would find this alarming because it isn't public, I normally hate things to be behind the scenes from users, but I think this is one thing where it might be good for everyone involved. There would just have to be a lot of trust in the SA+ team to deal with this. To be honest, I already would trust their judgment with anything like this better than my own.
