I'm partially in agreement with Nicit. Here's what I think:

1st Offense - 1 week temp, balance wipe.

2nd Offense - 1 month temp, balance wipe.

3rd Offense - 2 month temp, balance wipe, account reset (ranks, locks, everything).

4th Offense - Our version of "Perma Ban" which basically means just appeal to Andrew.

5th Offense - A real Perma Ban.

 

A small question - why exactly is someone supposed to be allowed back up to four times for doing something that cannot be done on accident, i.e., requires malicious intent to do so, especially multiple times?

 

Let's be honest. After being away for a month the odds of them hacking again are minimal. People really shouldn't even get to the third Offense.

 

1st offense - 1 week temp, balance wipe (first offense should be light, repeat offenders are the problem)

2nd offense - 30 day temp, balance wipe, SG stat wipe

3rd offense - Permaban and account wipe, towns go up for immediate claim, if the user manages to return they will be builders, have nothing except for previous donation features, and will be permanently blacklisted from the SG leaderboards. Not sure whether this should be a soft perma (appeal to andrew) or hard perma (no appeal anywhere).

It should not be profitable to hack.

 

No sg point wipe/sg medal wipe after doing it 4 times?

 

I'm assuming it's included in the "account reset" on 3rd offense. Also, should they be permanently blacklisted from the SG leaderboards?

I've been told wiping SG points is impossible because everything is connected. If you wipe a player entirely it affects anyone they have killed and been killed by. So that's unfeasible. Medal wipe... sure I guess, but it really makes no difference since they'll be perma'd from forums and in-game.

 

Your use of the word "malicious" concerns me. Hacking into someone's personal information is malicious. Taking someone's identity is malicious. Raping someone is malicious. Using a modified client to gain an unfair advantage in a video game is not malicious.

It may seem unfair, and trust me from experience, it is. But in no way is it malicious. The word "unjust" would have been a more appropriate word to use. You and I both know it isn't malicious. Not a single person on the planet would use a modified client on a video game for malicious purposes. It's a damn game that has no affect on life. I've had multiple friends who have used modified clients online and none of them have used them to harm others. Every single one of them have used their clients to have a laugh with friends. Each of them had one thing in common. A desire for entertainment, not harm.

I accept this criticism, the word appeared appropriate in my dictionary from my point of view. I wanted to express it as 'inadvertently malicious' - not desiring to harm others, yet accepting the fact that it does - but failed to find a good synonym. 'Inadvertently malicious' doesn't really fit, either.

The problem is that this isn't really the case on ECC. Have you ever seen players who enjoyed fighting against hackers in ECC's SG?

Using hacked clients deliberately harms others. It is essentially preventing others from acquiring money in SG by funneling it into the hacker's balance. I am going to skip the fact that hackers can also cause new Builders - who would have normally had a chance in SG - to quit the servers.

Hacking is done for personal benefit, completely ignoring the disadvantages it causes for other players and hurting not only a few statistics, but also the community on ECC.

 

First time - Week Ban

Second Time - Perma Ban

If you don't get it after one warning you don't need to play on the server.

If you are banned for hacking in sg/x-Ray/autofishing/fast breaking or any other way to abuse the economy your balance should be wiped your ranks should go back to president your inventory wiped forum balance wiped and items in chests confiscated as well as any recent payments you have made to signs incase your friends are holding your money.

Hacking should be a no tolerance policy. If you hack how does the staff team or the community know you haven't made all your money off of hacking? NO hackers should not be given the benefit of the doubt of "ohh poor kid he was only just recently hacking". It should be assumed that if he used a hacked client that he/she has been hacking their entire ECC carrer prior to that ban.
And what the actual Fk is a 3 day ban for an offense that ruins gameplay for many of this servers players in survival games, or gives an unfair advantage to those mining

Find other ways to make money that don't involve cheating the economy, and if you hack you should be sent to the graveyard just the way adds and confederate boy were. They abused the economy which is exactly what hacking does.

That's not an answer at all. What if someone is hypothetically so disgusting that they indeed get to the third offense: why on Earth should we allow someone like that, even hypothetically? If you didn't think anyone could get to the third offense, why make such an elaborate rule? Why would you make such an itemized rule, if not for "giving one more chance" to someone real who had already enough chances and obviously deserves no more? Let's just settle things once and for all and purge this place from that plague: 3rd offence = absolutely no way to get back ever again

 

I agree with the 3rd offense and your gone.... Three strikes, your out. Personally I would go with two or even one, but that may seem harsh.

Like come on... to hack, you intentionally, knowingly, download, install, and know that is against the server rules, but would more rather have an unfair advantage.
