Add a command where you can opt-in for a swear filter and allow swearing that is not in excess in global chats. Racial/prejudiced language would be banned still obviously, and you still won't be allowed to direct swearing at other people. If players attempt to bypass this filter, they will be warned by moderators.
This will make it so we can cater to both opinions of swearing - Those who don't want to see it and can opt-in for a filter, while those who want to swear can swear without disturbing those who don't want to see it.
This is the ideal solution to the swearing debate and respects all opinions related to swearing.

If it can be coded, **** yeah.
+1
Also make it default that new players don't see swearing, but can change it.-

I would really like to see this added. I believe it will be a great improvement to chat as people wouldn't have to see any cussing or mods spam warning people. People will also be able to speak normally.

I really don't understand why people feel the need to swear in he first place, it bewilders me. Can't you just have some fun in chat on a minecraft server without using vulgar language.
I fail to understand why people want to swear on a game which is intended to be fun and for people to just mess around abit. Swearing is completely wrong in my eyes, especially on a server such as ECC, claiming to be family friendly.
As for the suggestion, I don't really see the point. Why make Jamie/Andrew code something that could take a couple hours when all people need to do is...
...not go around swearing!
I'd rather the work was put into the lobby, AAC or something worth while.-

Do people have a problem censoring their language to make it appropriate for a minecraft server? If they do, their knowledge of what is and isn't socially acceptable is terrible.
The point is, people make a concious decision to swear. It can be helped and stopped. There is no need or point to swear on ECC. There are many other ways to say things- swearing isn't at all needed.-

What is and isn't socially acceptable isn't knowledge, though. It's culture. It will change from person to person and place to place.
You're right in that there isn't a need to swear on ECC. There isn't even a need to play on ECC! "Need" based arguments here just don't work, because it's a game. Nothing is "needed", it's all up to what people want.-

kukelekuuk C͕̹̲̽ͪ͐ͩ̔L̜̦̝͈ͦ̿̾̿ḘA̻̗̤̳̐ͭ̆̿̃̑ͭN̊̓͑̇ͯBuilder ⛰️ Ex-EcoLeader ⚜️⚜️⚜️ Premium UpgradeYou consider it vulgar, I don't. I see there's a difference in opinion here. I don't need to swear, I try to tone it down, but it's still a part of my vocabulary and I will make use of it when I see fit. It is out of respect that I even tone it down, because I respect that some people don't want to see it. But respect goes both ways. And saying I'm not allowed to do it is just as disrespectful to me as some kid swearing is to you.
Besides, swearing is a part of the modern age, it's not gonna go away. So you might as well just let people decide if they want to see it or not. Arguing about whether or not people should swear is silly.-

I could ask a good chunk of my friends of family, all of whom would say that swearing isn't socially acceptable. Let me put this to you: You're around 35 years old, you have a 3 year old child who is picking up new words everyday, and you take them out and you child hears someone swearing, is it socially acceptable for those people to be swearing? I don't think it is. I wouldn't want my child swearing at 3 because of hearing someone who can't keep their mouth shut mouth off at someone else. Obviously, there isn't 3 year olds here, but the same thing applies: a lot of monecraft players are probably between about 8-14 maybe? I know there are older ones (i.e. me and you) but that's probably the target market. If I was a parent, I wouldn't want to see that sort of stuff in chat that my 10 year old could see! I know you can turn chat off, but why ruin it because one person can't be civil.
People don't need to play, you're right. But for those that want to, why not make it a more pleasant expierence for them?-

RyanBlocks2 EcoLeaderEcoLeader ⛰️⛰️⛰️ Ex-Tycoon ⚜️⚜️⚜️ Premium UpgradeI could ask the majority of the world and they would say no one cares if you swear. You clearly have a very sheltered life if something as small as swearing is considered unacceptable.

Besides, that's what the suggestion is for!-

Hang on, you don't consider swearing as vulgar? I'm sorry, but saying swearing isn't vulgar is a load of rubbish. Why should we allow it for the few who want it, when the majority think that swearing is completley vulgar and shouldm't be allowed? What about if someone says "using racial slurs is part of my vocabulary", is that ok too?
Lol, then you go rate my post optimistic. Tells me all I need to know.-

I actually don't live a sheltered life. I was taught right from wrong. No parent should be teaching children to swear. You are the one leading a sheltered life if you think the majority of the world thinks swearing is ok.
And swearing isn't so small, it's a big issue which people shouldn't be subjected to.-
