Suggestion: Make server warns and bans public
Reason: Publicly revealing the reasons for punishments is a benefit to the community in two ways:
I understand that the second one is probably going to be an instant "doesn't matter" because the oversight comes from the top, not the bottom. But it's still a benefit regardless. I'd love to elicit discussion of the first reason.
- It allows others to benefit from the knowledge of the reason, so as not to repeat the mistake
- It allows for public oversight of enforcement.

I don't think the server is mature enough to handle public warns. Everyone's just gonna flip sht whenever someone gets a warn.

the way that these things are set up, being privy to the generated message is not optional if you're in a group that sees it (typically staff) which makes sense, as staff would need to be aware of it at all times
so I voted no due to the following two reasons
1: It isn't worth the time/effort/resources to make this message into something you can opt out of
2: I honestly don't care enough about these things to see a benefit in a message that can't be opted out of-

I see no point of having the bans being made public to the people, seeing that this can put the felon into an (inescapable) embarrassment. -
Well, since they're felons. They kind of deserve the publicity of a warning or ban. This can also warn users, say a user get's warned for a minor grief, this indicates the user isn't the best person to include in your town etc.

May I suggest something similar to real life: the felony records of everyone are not made public automatically; however the record of anyone in particular is potentially available to anyone who wants to make a background check: they just need to actively and explicitly ask officers (i.e. staff) in order to get a complete record. Could this be a reasonable compromise?
In this way:
- people who just make a stupid mistake don't risk to be harassed by people gratuitously judging them (in my understanding, this is the main concern against the suggestion);
- at the same time, the right to get a complete background check of someone before doing any business with them is granted to everyone.

So, I'm extremely against this because what we have is exactly the same as you have when searching through the appeals section.
The only thing we have that you don't is warns and notes. Those clear after 30 days and are not possible to restore or save.
I see no reason for anything to be public.
